This is where I'd show the clip of the Mathemagician from Martin's birthday party on The Simpsons, but I can't find it on youtube.

"But seven goes into 28 four times!"
"Um...this is a magic seven"

HAH!

Honestly, I am SO bad at math (like literally...I have the mathematical equivalent of dyslexia, which is why I don't fly Army helicopters dammit) that just about anyone doing calculations in their heads feels like magic to me. This is still impressive, though.

I like these guys better though. Square One TV was the only thing in the world that ever made math tolerable to me, even a little:

I loved Square One, and Mathnet in particular. Fridays in elementary school math were a treat.

Me too! I don't remember all the skits they did, but Mathnet and Mathman were always my favorite.

They had a math magician on SquareOne!

His name was Harry Blackstone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Blackstone,_Jr.

Heh, I remember loving Square One, and Mathnet does stick out. Fantastic that they got the Micro Machines guy in there, too.

Also, pretty cool find, GP.

For whatever reason, this song stuck with me for the past 20 years or so.

Oh my god. I am SO using this in class on Monday!!! I've been trying to teach my kids Roman numerals (they get confused on chapter numbers) for the past month! THIS IS AWESOME. They way they teach it is memorable, but also very clear and extremely methodical. I love it.

Also, the skit in general is just awesome. Man this show had great writers. I mean it's cheesy yeah, but in the very best way, and perfect for the target audience.

I can't be impressed.. It's a nice ability, but I don't like math.

So suck it.

I'm surprised they were able to find a fifteen-minute stretch in this man's life where he wasn't chest-deep in naked women.

Though, I have seen other men on Ripley's and TV shows who can do the same thing, with less showmanship. Even though I'm incredibly impressed, I think there must be some kind of a pattern with it that they have all figured out, or there's just a way of understanding numbers that a few have caught on to.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

That's not even their best song!

This is probably the most famous Square One song:

And then there's Ghost Of A Chance, which is my favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOk4cMfwsIY

I like that if you type Simpsons Mathemagician into google, this page is the ninth thing that comes up.

My grandfather actually pointed this out to me. I was impressed he found it.
