I have to say, this game looks pretty damn good. Gets released on May 17th.
The facial expressions and lip synching is phenomenal.
Check it out in this trailer.

I don't know. I get the feeling the game won't be anywhere nearly as exciting as the advertising hype makes it out to be and the game will basically end being Grand Theft Auto: Old Tyme Los Angeles

I sure hope not.
I like the idea of solving cases, collecting evidence, and interrogating/questioning suspects/witnesses.
I'm hoping that puts a new spin on it.
And like I said before, it looks amazing IMO.

Every preview and demo has indicated that it's nothing like Grand Theft Auto. I've been following the development for a while (mostly because of the very interesting facial capture technology) and reviewers have said it's rather slow and think-y compared to Rockstar's usual fare.
I'd buy it if I had the funds.

I'm a huge fan for film noir, so it's interesting to see if this is going to be any good. I think Rockstar has learned their lesson with other games (State of Emergency, anyone?) not to make everything a GTA ripoff. This reminds of me LA Confidential.

If it really does turn out to be a Bioware rip-off instead of a GTA rip-off, color me very intrigued.

I haven't played Bioware...so I wouldn't know.
Either way, I don't have a PS3 so I won't be picking this up. Sad day.

It's on 360 as well, if you have that.
Bioware is a company. They are best known for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, the first KOTOR, and the first Neverwinter Nights.

No 360
And I knew better...I know BioWare...I was thinking Bio Shock for whatever reason.

No Wii/PC = No GPF
A game like this will sell well, but not Call of Duty well. Blowing off two large platforms is a bad mistake. Rockstar should know better by now. Avoiding the Wii isn't a huge loss because the system isn't powered for a game like this, but the PC has the ability and is being openly ignored.
Why? Porting is too hard? Bullshit. Rockstar has done it for just about every other game.
Because of the mods that can add sex scenes? Come on...
What is the real reason?

Piracy.
With the exception of Red Dead Redemption (Which make me sad), Rockstar has released all their major titles to PC... about 6 - 12 months after the console releases.
They want people to buy it, and piracy is minimal on the consoles as compared to PC.

Yeah, I expect we'll see this on the PC eventually, but not until well after the PC launch.
I imagine we'll see an enhanced port on Wii 2.0 with bonus content.

It is true that if a game is made for the PC someone will hack it and make a pirated version. However, that is a lame reason to avoid the platform. Make it a digitally distributed game, tie it in with OnLive and Steam, reduce the price by $10, and watch the cash flow in.

But when they get $10 more for it on 360/PS3, you can see why they're in no hurry to put it on PC.
And you hit upon another issue. PC owners feel entitled to pay less, whether via piracy or via Steam. A game like this ain't cheap to make.

There is no physical media. The reduction in distribution is the cost adjustment.
As a PC gamer I believe that the cost of a game should reflect the cost to produce, market, and distribute, plus a reasonable profit margin. If one of those items is removed, others shouldn't absorb the cost, the product cost should go down.
So, a store bought game should cost the full price. Online ones should cost less. Even if it is the same exact game.

I agree completely.
Why should Steam/EA Store/D2D/etc users have to pay the console version's pressing, packaging, and shipment costs when none of those are involved in the digital direct version?
It's not that I feel entitled to a lower cost because it's the PC version. If I went to Best Buy or Frys to pick up the game, then I have no problem paying $50 - $60 for it. I get more buying the boxed version, so I should pay more. I get a physical disc, a case, and possibly more.

After seeing how GTA4 was ported to the PC (read: 99% of computers couldn't run it even after multiple patches) I don't trust anything Rockstar does that isn't on a console.

I'm torn. On one hand, I dig crime-solving logic stuff like Ace Attorney, but I can't stand any more open world games where I have to drive snail-mobiles for miles and miles, watch a 3-minute cutscene, then drive the car to somewhere else, watch a 5-minute cutscene, then drive the car home, finish the mission and get an achievement.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

If you digitally download the game, consider that extra $10 to be your convenience fee. Or your "I am too lazy and/or obese to leave my house" fee.
Also, I just found out this game is going to be three discs on the 360. Uh, pass. This is 2011, not 2001. I don't play multiple disc games anymore.

I could be equally lazy by ordering a game from Amazon.com. Digital Distribution benefits the publisher more than the buyer. The cost reduction should translate into a price reduction, not additional revenue.
Also, the 360 was stupid for not adding a Bluray player. Microsoft, HD-DVD lost... get over it.

And yet you're to lazy to get up and change a disc?
It's 2011, not 2001. We download our games now.
