Syd,
I have sat through my sister's Bat Mitzvah, High School Graduation, College Graduation, and all parties that were associated. I missed work, parties, and other events over the course of time as I these things went down.
Looking back, I don't regret my choice to be there one bit. It meant something to her. It meant that family was more important than money or my own personal satisfaction. She was important and I proved that when it mattered most to her.
What you think of the events is not relevant in this case because it isn't about you. In 10, 20, 30 years when she thinks about her graduation she won't think about you being there, but if you miss it, she will look back and remember that as the single sore thumb.
No single day or weekend of work is worth missing it.

It's your world, she just lives in it. I would have skipped my Graduation but my parents threatened me into going. I am an only child but a lot of my family as well as my friends were there, so maybe the party wouldn't be that bad. Graduations just bore the shit out of me, that's why I refuse to walk for my degree next week. Mail me the fucker and send me the bill.
Plus you can drink beer and seem like her cool mysterious brother because god knows not enough beer in the world would make them say that about Jeebus

I don't know. I feel that a party is a lot like a discussion. And if you can't add anything to a discussion, don't join it.

If you're going to be ignored, it's not the best idea to go. It'll be boring and your sister will make you feel like an ass, if my own is anything to go by. While graduation may be nothing big looking back, it's symbolic of the end of 13 years hard work to get out in the real world or college. I'm with everyone who said graduation ceremony is something you should attend, but the party is shit even I'd ignore, and I hate disappointing people that way.

Just go to the ceremony, make an appearance at the party to drop off a gift or whatever and if it seems like you're not contributing anything to the party after that and all attempts to engage in gaiety and merriment have been foiled or fallen flat then leave.

Go to the ceremony but I wouldn't sweat the party. If she were older then you then I would tell you to go (but that would be because of her friends and your own selfish reasons, which would still be fine) but tell her the party should be about her and her friends having fun together. Make the case that you wouldn't have much to add.

Look at it from her perspective, she has to sit for hours just to get a piece of paper and if you aren't there then she is sitting for hours to get a piece of paper and her own brother wouldn't see her off.

My valedictorian used a quote by Mao and I almost got thrown out for yelling out "get off the stage, you commie piece of shit." That said, I was also kind of amped on some blotter acid I found in my wallet while smoking a bowl with my sister and her boyfriend at the time.

You know, it was her job to make sure I got a big surprise party for my last birthday, and that didn't happen. So to hell with her.

That is a great way to justify missing every important future social event. Oh... I can't come because I don't really want to be there.
I can't come to your wedding reception because I don't have anything to contribute.
I can't come to your relative's funeral because I don't have anything to contribute.
I can't come to your retirement party because I don't have anything to contribute.
I can't go to your fund raiser because I don't have anything to contribute.
I can't go to your child's Christening/Briss because I don't have anything to contribute.
I can't go to my child's birth because I don't have anything to contribute .
Syd, when you are an adult, you go because your presence is the contribution. Your own personal feelings and considerations get pushed aside during these types of events as you celebrate the time and accomplishments of others. Your presence may not be noticed, but your absence would be.
If you want to live a happy life that isn't lonely, you should avoid burning some of the more important social bridges that are easy to maintain. When dealing with family, this goes double.

I've never been to a retirement party.
But I say this: always go to weddings and wakes (and funerals, depending on your level of obligation) or people won't go to yours.
As for graduation parties, I went to my friends' ones and they came to mine. As for my sister, she's 10 years younger than me. She could walk into any room at a party for me and people would pay attention to her and talk to her because aw, it's Syd's little sister and isn't she adorable? No one's gonna fucking tell me how adorable I am!

The kanji they turn into is 友 tomo, which is probably best known for showing up in 友達 tomodachi, and means "friend".
I used to read this comic, and it has several strips like this. He's giving you ways to help remember the meaning of the kanji.

I don't think you're being unreasonable for not wanting to go. But I still think you should go. It depends how intimate the ceremony is, really. My HS graduation had over 3000 students and I didn't even go. No one wants to sit through that shit. But if means that much to her you should probably go. Girls are irrational at that age (actually at all ages) they don't think in terms of time in money.
I agree with the 3DS comment.
