So if you are deemed wealthy, republicans feel taxing you more hurts your spirit and punishes you for achieving the american dream. Seriously? I can understand the argument for raising the perceived level of "wealth" as 250K a year doesn't deem you rich anymore. Living in New York or LA definitely shows that argument.
However, I don't see why reducing the tax cuts to those making say 750K to 1 Milion are such ridiculous measures. Coming off a year where corporations post 4 billion in profits and actually receive refunds from the government this is all ridiculous. I'm not loyal to any one side of politics, but this has me definitely leaning towards the democrat persuasion.

You try having a million dollars and see how hard it is to part with a single cent on something you don't want.
I don't agree with this notion, by the way.

Tax hikes are actually legitimately not good for the economy, but that being said its more of a rollback of tax reductions from the Bush admin that we honestly could never have afforded.

I personally don't agree with NOT taxing the rich, but it's the lesser of two evils, because, like it or not, the rich control the economy.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

Let's just cut the hands off of anyone who sells their food stamps for cash. Once layabouts realized that getting a free ride while smoking crack has serious consequences maybe they'll fucking get off their asses and stop defrauding the system. Also maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt!

Well lets see, we can either have the rich pay taxes, or: Cut VA Benefits such as the GI Bill, Slash Pell Grants for kids who want to go to college, Break teachers unions because they are overpaid as it is, and I don't know maybe take the elderly and disabled's benefits away. What sounds good to you? Higher Taxes??? You monster of a devil worshiping socialist commie, this is America, and we love God!

The only reason they want these tax cuts for the rich is because the rich people are the ones lobbying for it.

I would love to have all VA Benefits cut. ESPECIALLY my GI Bill, and seriously, fuck grandma's benifits. She's old and had her time. Now it's my turn.

I know right, well I switched mine over to the POST 911 GI Bill because I qualified and it seemed like a better deal, then the Republicans got ahold of it and slashed the fuck ton out of it. Its amazing that so many troops and veterans support the same party that was trying to fuck them over. Jim Webb got the initial GI bill revision passed and he had to fight tooth and nail against Bush and Mccain the whole way, but when it passed they were the first to take credit for it. Its no wonder he left the Republican party.

thats how it is in AZ. McCain has voted against so many GI bills/veteran bills, yet veterans still vote for him. doesnt make sense.
but there is this website who is against him: http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/

FederaL tax cuts shouldn't effect teachers, because the federal government isn't in the business of running schools. Education is the sole responsibility of state governments and any federal money they receive should be considered generous.

I am aware, I was referring to a broad spectrum of what the GOP or rather the Tea Party section of the GOP is trying to push, whether it be state or federal. In the end though, tax cuts for the rich are nothing more than spending in disguise.

Personally, I think a serious revision of the US tax codes is in order, considering it comes every year (the Tax Code) in a bigger book than War and Peace. And yeah, a lot of corporations dodged taxes artfully this year, but they do that every year. Unless we can find at least a thousand corporations who should rightfully be paying a billion dollars each in taxes, it's not going to mean shit for the deficit. What really throws me is that people think the budget was actually taken care of, when ostensibly the Senate, Obama and everyone else said, "Oh, well, we've got a bunch of leftover money from programs for other years, we'll just use that."
Here's the thing: we had a deficit those years too, so technically, that money shouldn't and doesn't exist. We are going to pay for cuts with nothing. How the fuck does government continue to function again?

If our society hasn't already made it clear to people that in this world $$$$ talks and bullshit walks, it's evident more today than it was ever in the past.
"If you don't have money, you're worthless to our society." - that's what our goverment is telling us.

No, we're still just as dirty. But until we can pay kids 2$ a day to go blind stitching soccer balls as some shithole plant where they work 20 hours a day and get a nutritious paste twice a day to eat, or until people stop buying cheap shit mass produced in other countries that do that kind of stuff, we're not going to be affluent ever again. We just can't compete in some aspects, and while it's not a terrible thing (we're not total scumfucks), it means less dinero for Uncle Sam.

OR the politicians could show how serious they really are and cut from defense and slash entitlement spending. But neither party wants to go that route because guess which lobby is even bigger then the rich? I am guessing almost everyone here is a millennial (or tail end of gen x), I do seriously hope none of you plan to have SS when you retire. The boomers are making absolutely sure they get everything they can while putting in as little as possible. They are leaving us and our kids with a heaping pile of crap to clean up and it will not be pretty.

Which is why I believe the best way to go if you want to retire comfortably is to either invest in a personal IRA or move to a country that's good to retire in.
I've lost faith in both the democrats and republicans in looking out for middle-class citizens. You have the republicans who seem to want to give everything to the wealthy and tell the not-so-wealthy to fuck off and die, and then you have the democrats who are either spineless to stand up to the republicans or are otherwise incompetent at improving things for our country.
Another problem is greed on both sides of the wealth scale among the citizens: you have the wealthy who expect corporate welfare and lay off thousands just so they report growth, and you have the poor who refuse to do any work while holding out their hands for food stamps and cheat the programs the democrats try to help put in place.

This will make life at 65 amazing, but what the fuck do the young middle class do for the next 30-40 years?
Cost of living goes up significantly while job stability and availability goes down. My feeling is that until we figure out a way to decrease imports, increase exports, and stabilize energy, retirement programs will only feel like money being given up that could help us along the way.
