Wow...I remember reading about this a long time ago. Nice to know it was completed.
Also, the sheer amount of stuff you listed on the front page sounds completely amazing. I'm downloading it now because I love SoR.

Oh cool! I've played the Demo/half completed version a few years back, but I hadn't heard about this in a while, i thought the project had been canned or something.
Good to know it hasn't. I'll download it after work today

YES! This thing is AWESOME! The best beat'em up I've played in years! (Which should be a compliment, even though the beat'em up genre seems to be dying ) I really liked the whole feel, and different characters (Well, so far, I only have like 7 )
Two things though: You should get at least some money even if you didn't finish the game, and the lady bosses' throw really shouldn't take away half your health bar. That may just be me whining about the difficulty though

Okay, let me edit this post so its less crazy.
So, the Streets of rage game was pulled down : http://www.news.com.au/technology/gaming/streets-of-rage-remake-pulled-as-sega-bans-turning-their-crappy-games-into-good-ones/story-e6frfrt9-1226038917676
Sega, whether they liked the game or not, was obligated to protect their intellectual property. Fortunately, its already mades its way five times around the internet and their not aggressively pursuing anything or anyone.
What that means is that with a little digging and internet skills you have the opportunity to snag a very very good beat em up for free, that combines the old school nostalgia generated by a deep dedication to a good series that fell by the wayside combined with surprisingly polished gameplay and extensive to the point of excessive customization options.
I love this game, and highly recommend it.

Don't worry jackfrost, I already got it downloaded. And I'm aware that nothing leaves the internet for long.

Yeah i acquired it pretty easily. I remember saying to Sehk that i couldn't be assed downloading it originally because the file was kind of large. Kind of missed my chance.
Got it now though, was easy to find.
Also the game is great. I like how it's a lot faster and that special moves no longer drain health.

Aww is it gone now? Also I assumed it runs on computers, my question was really this. Does it run on Emus or as an EXE or what?

It's an Executable. And it has a lot of things to unlock. You start with about 33% of the characters, and there's even a stage maker in it :O

Fuck SEGA.
Seriously, this is about the WORST move they could've pulled with this. There are dozens and dozens of games infringing the copyright of their most popular franchise, but once a (arguably) now-niche franchise gets one, they act then? I mean, what could SEGA have possibly gained from pulling this? Those who wanted it are going to know how to get it, and, more likely than not, more people are going to hear about it because of their legal action. All this did was give SEGA a worse reputation.
Way to go, dickheads.

Better for them to do it right after release instead of right before.

Once again, if they didn't go after the game in the 8 years of development or the minimum time of 15 seconds needed to make something permanent on the internet, then its practically a blessing on the project. The rest might as well have been nothing but a show of face for legal purposes.
Edit: wait, just read updated news. They are making a legit effort, which is foolish. Nothing can be removed from the internet forever, thats just common sense. So letting it get out was such a stupid act I could only rationalize it as intentional.

That's the conclusion I went to. They let it out for several days, but then removed it under the smug knowledge that anyone who really wants it will get it. It's a shame they don't just openly embrace such projects like some other companies do, but I can understand their motivations for acting with such seemingly poor timing.

Really really sucks though for the team, cause Bomberlink had a big patch to fix stuff coming, as well as the fact the team freely took time to tribute a game and then essentially get slapped in the face after it was all said and done by the company who
A) Freely lets fans run the Sonic franchise to the ground with hacks and fan projects
B) Let said fans run PUBLIC SONIC FANGAME EXPOS. Yes, community centers rented, games are shown, whole big events.
C) Also has PR member join (Sonic) game forums and comment on fan hacks/games.
Huge, huge slap to the face. I' glad the game got out and people played the game, god knows how much effort the team put into it (hell just working on Adam, the SOR1 Garcia, and the bad Endings ALONE took along time for me, and I've only been working on it since 2009...).
Sad thing is, I really think this "broke" Sega for me, if you get what I'm saying.

I read that the project was completely finished and that no further updates were going to be made to it.

True but with the influx of bugs and such Bomberlink decided to make a patch.
He had about 40 fixed day 1.

I think the game by itself is already fine as it is. The only thing it's missing is online multiplayer, which I read in the site was scrapped. I really hope someday that can be patched in, either by BomberGames or some other fan group.
I've lost some respect for Sega for being tight-assed over this fangame. It's their own fault they haven't made an SOR game in 15 years.
