Holy shit, why hasn't anyone told me about these before????

The PowerPak and SNES PowerPak.

What are they? Simple. They are game cartridges for your classic Nintendo systems that contain a Compact Flash slot. This means you can play *cough* *cough* "backups", of your games on those systems. Or even, foreign and translated versions! They seem kinda expensive at first, but if you think about it, the price is worth every goddamn penny.

The only downside to the SNES one, is that games that use expansion chips other than the DSP1 are not supported, and will not be added. Which means no FX chip games, or a few others that used chips such as the SA-1 (ie Kirby Super Star, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, etc) the CX4 (ie Mega Man X2 & X3), or the S-DD1 (Street Fighter Alpha 2).

But still.... goddamn. I need to save up $280 for the pair!

There's another SNES flashcart called the Neo SNES Myth that has mostly the same compatibility and a passthrough slot for those cartridges that don't work as ROMs, but it has no external memory.

I have an arcade stick that supports NES and SNES connectors, so I would love to have one of these just to use it on real hardware.

wow. those are pretty sweet. kind of pricey, but like knyte said, they are worth every cent considering how much some of these games go for online or used even

If you want a permanent means by which to to play the original 8-bit versions of Final Fantasy II & III and the original 16-bit versions of Dragon Quest V & VI, respectively, look no further. Please note that there may be problems saving FF3.

I'd buy it, but only to play Mario Rom hacks on an actual SNES.

On topic, compatibility. Action 52 doesn't run, so there goes one-half my reason to get the NES version.
