I'm going to sit down and beat everything on my Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, since I've never owned a Sega console older than a Dreamcast.

That's a great collection. Try to get all the achievements/trophies, too.

It was hard to come up with 10, especially since I only used the rule of console games. If I included PC games, I'd have about 30 or so.
10. Little Samson (debatable classic, but my friend loved this game)
9. Wipeout series
8. The Simpsons Arcade game (This was at only one arcade in town during only a couple years, where I probably went maybe 3 times, and never had money to play, but my friends loved it)
7. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (does this count?)
6. Lock n' Chase or K.C. Munchkin (I love Pac Man clones and have never played either one of these, even though they're highly regarded clones)
5. Marvel vs. Capcom series (honest to God, I want to get around to these, but can never find 1 or 2 cheap enough)
4. Resident Evil series (I own the second one, but I never got around to playing it)
3.Suikoden series
2. Phantasy Star series
1. Mother

I can only think of 8
1. Earthbound (Too expensive on Ebay)
2. Knuckles Chaotix
3. Final Fight 2
4. Final Fight 3
5. Street Fighter 3
6. Super Castlevania 4
7. Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons
8. Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages
Good thing for emulation, or I might never be able to play these games.

I was just looking at Earthbound on Ebay, and holy shit has it shot up! It seemed like you could buy a complete copy with everything just a year ago for about $250, and now it looks like it's going for around $350 or more.

This is probably due to the american dollar being extremely weak compared to european currency, so for us, the price on american games have gone down, making it easier to put even higher bids on games like Earthbound. Which then increases in price.

Alright, the curiosity is driving me nuts. I've never played Earthbound but the cost seems to be anywhere from $140 to $200 at the cheapest. What's so fuckin special about Earthbound? Is the game that good or just extremely rare?

1. Dragon Warrior II (Incoming)
2. BOF II (Incoming)
3. Lolo 3
4. Castlevania III
5. Any Metroid not in 2d
6. Final Fantasy 8
7. Donkey Kong Country 2
8. Y's book I & II (Now Playing it on PSP)
^^ Earthbound is really good, but that is coming from someone who played it from day 1, someone who may pick it up now may not like it. It combines a good story, very simple RPG elements (i.e. Dragon Warrior) and some good pop culture and makes up one of the very best games for one of the very best systems ever created.
But you don't have to take my word for it...

Also, Ash, you aren't missing much with Castlevania 3.

I think Earthbound is definitely a nostalgia thing, I never played it growing up and it doesn't really wow me now. Although I'm not a big rpg player anyway.

Interesting! I think I have to say no for now, but I might have to ask you later on. Have spent a lot on old games already this month

I can't think of a single classic game that I haven't played.

Hey, Castlevania 3 is pretty good. It's definitely the best 8-bit Castlevania, unless you just flat out don't like Castlevania games.

I've never bothered to play any Dragon Warrior game other than the first one. But that's because I hated the first one. Maybe I would like some of the sequels. After all, I didn't like Ultima: Exodus but I liked Quest of the Avatar.

Since I made this thread almost 3 years ago, I've played Faxanadu, Lufia II, Destiny of an Emperor 2 and Chrono Cross that were on my list. However I'm always finding out about more classic games that I've never played. Games like Shadowgate, Maniac Mansion, Ogre Battle, Star Ocean, and of course many others I'm sure I have yet to discover. What other classic games have people always wanted to try but missed?
Sorry to necro an old thread, but I feel like the forums are dying...

For me it would probably be a bunch of older PC games since I was not much of a PC gamer back in the day.

1. Kid Icarus - Despite all of the rare NES games I have, I've never seen this in person, reasonably priced or no.
2. Final Fantasy IX (see above)
3. Final Fantasy Tactics (see above)
4. Dragon Warrior IV
5. LoZ: Ocarina of Time
6. LoZ: Majora's Mask (never had an N64)
7. Super Mario 64 (this one has much less of a valid excuse since it's on DS, but still)
8. Breath of Fire 2
9. Sonic 3
10.Ogre Battle (any of them)
Honorable mention: Yoshi's Island

1. http://virtualnes.com/play/NES-KI If Java doesn't let you play it, you have to add http://www.virtualnes.com (you have to type it like that) to the list of site exceptions, and you should be fine.
7. The DS version is okay. The N64 and Virtual Console versions are far superior due to better controls.

The only games I never got a chance to play when I wanted to were Low-G Man and Super Spike V'Ball. I plan to rectify this now that I bought a a NES/SNES clone
