Apple products have invaded a large majority of our lives, and with the updating of technology the Cali company feel that they need to move fast to establish themselves as a dominant force.

With devices such as iPod touch and more recently iPad, the gaming world is opened up, and according to Apple Insider the firm wants iOS to be recognized as the gaming platform. To do this they have taken two key players from gaming giants Nintendo and Activision.

One of the positions filled was secured by Robert Saunders, formerly head of Nintendo UK’s communications. Saunders is said to be placed in a new role within the PR section of iPad, iPhone and iPod apps. While at Nintendo he saw through the release the companies hugely popular Wii and DS console.

As MCV states the other new addition comes from Activison in the form of Nick Grange. As yet Grange’s position is to be confirmed, but suggestions say he will be focused on iPad hardware. With the pair on board Apple is sure to step its game, so to speak.

So with Apple’s plan underway, reports say that figures shown for December 2010, gave a rise of 43.8 percent for mobile gaming whilst Nintendo’s DS and Sony’s PSP suffered a 13 percent fall.

Now with the introduction of the Xperia PLAY, do you think that handheld console gaming will drop in popularity with the unveiling of possibly more smartphone/gaming devices?

I don't want Activision or Apple involved in my video games. Ever.

Activision is a profit monster and Apple doesn't know jack shit about video games.

The combination of the two in any relationship with Nintendo would equate to disaster for the future of gaming. Sadly, I don't see Google or Microsoft jumping in to save our asses either.
