What are the top ten classic games have you missed over the years that sound the most appealing to you. These are the ones I'm going to try to make it my mission to find someday soon.

1. Kid Icarus
2. Faxanadu
3. Earthbound
4. Lufia 2
5. Bubble Bobble
6. Guardian Legend
7. Grandia
8. Destiny of an Emperor 2 (maybe only on an emulator)
9. Chrono Cross
10. Any Zelda after Link to the Past

That's what comes to mind so far. I hear missing some of these games is a crime in some states.

How are Zeldas after AL2TP classic?

Uh here goes, almost everything! I grew up poor and my parents were cheap, besides having SMB1 SMB3 TMNT1 and unfortunately DnD: Heroes Of The Lance I had nadda zip nothing. I was allowed to rent games very rarely and usually wasted said rental on something I had no chance of beating without practice, A whole slew of Megaman games come to mind. *edit* Totally forgot, I had Zelda II, probably the best game I had and the only one I beat besides the Marios...

Twas the same when I finally got a SNES, only had SMW and DKC and Mario Kart, everything else was sporadic rental. I usually picked intellectual properties I recognized without realizing that their forays into the home console market was code speak for easy cash in / shitty game, IE Mechwarrior (both versions) and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (Seriously, fuck this game) and Beavis and Butt-head (this game also gets a fuck you)...

I got to play good games rarely because I was isolated where I grew up and didn't have a lot of friends, it wasn't till I started dating a serious Nintendo fangirl in middle school that I was able to play a lot of the games everyone here love and cherishes, but at that point I had other interests.

All of this was greatly balanced out later by a heavy stint of having nice computers and classic adventure games and stuff that was bleeding edge popular like Wolfenstien and Doom and Duke Nukem and anything Battletech / Mechwarrior related, so whatever.

Well, I never got to play Earthbound on account of it never being released in Europe. Other than that, I'd have a hard time even finding nine other games. People keep telling me ToeJam and Earl is good, but I never bothered with it.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.

Yeah I've heard about Toe Jam & Earl a lot. But how come it wasn't on Sonic's Sega Classics if it's so popular? I mean, who really wants to play DeCap Attack? That game blows!

I can relate to that. As a kid we were poor and I had to buy EVERY GODDAMN video game I ever owned with my hard earned money. And when you're in the 12 - 16 age bracket you really don't make shit. Probably why I was so limited in the games I played back then.

BTW that's a good question about Zelda games. From what I hear there's a lot of post LttP Zelda games that were worth playing. Probably why I mentioned it even though they're not that classic. Also I should mention the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. Anyone recommend those?

Not for me, deciding tax brackets and bribing foreign heads of state 90% of the time and taking place in confusing spreadsheetesque combat sequences populated by blurry two framed pixel piles of shit when that finally became unbearable never appealed to me.

So Romance of the Three Kingdoms plays nothing like Destiny of an Emperor I presume. Other than being based on the same thing in history. I mentioned that because Destiny of an Emperor is my favorite game on the NES but it plays more Breath of Fire/ Final Fantasy RPG-like. Only better.

romance of the three kingdoms is ok. they have made about 10 different sequels of that game, but its uber complicated and slow....

The N64 games are like 15 years old now.
I can only think of a couple... Chrono Trigger and FFVII.
And Dragon Warrior II and III I guess.

I never owned a Nintendo console when i was a kid so take a wild guess how many classics i missed. I own one now although i have only 3 games for it wich are Blaster Master, Batman and Section Z. So much for the NES.

On the SNES i think i played nearley all of the really classic games. Maybe i missed 1 or 2.

On the N64, oh well, how many classic games did it have? Two, Three? Yes i played Mario 64,Lylat Wars and the two Zelda games.

On the PSone i missed FFIX, wich i regret. I need to play it one day. Besides that i can't think of a classic PSone game i didn't play.

The PS2 is not a console wich i would award with the word classic. So thats the end of the line.

I feel for you. Heroes of the Lance is the worst game I own. I convinced my parents to buy it for me after reading Chronicles and it was such a letdown.

That's not even the worst part, it was a gift from my father, who later committed suicide. I traded it for this Mighty Max Image and by the time I found out he was dead and went to get my game back (just cause I got it from him, it still sucks but you know what I mean) the kid didn't have it anymore. Confused

Life made a really harsh move on you blackout, i can feel with you. Did you get over it somehow?

My father died of drugs. I also still have some toys i bought together with him. So i know that such things really mean something to you. My stepfather also died. A blood clot in the brain killed him.

I just crawled in to the attic and read a book for like a week. I did have a hard time trying out for the swim team later in life, but with the encouragement of friends both old and new I was eventually able to over come.

Geez you guys, those are tough breaks. Didn't mean to turn this thread into anything depressing. Glad you overcame though Blackout.

You son of a bitch! That's the plot to the NeverEnding Story! But it was his mom that died.

Bastion was awesome on the swim team.

I guess I should mention Lolo 3. Got near the end of Lolo 1 and played Lolo 2 only once briefly. Still have yet to play #3.

I never played a lot of classics because im a youngin and dont have the nostalgia factor for alot of games, like i have never played Ocarina of Time or Link to the past. Zelda just never looked very appealing to me to be honest, maybe i should get on that, i dont know.

With a screen name like SNESGuy you'd think you would be an older gamer with a lot of nostalgia.

Shoot, I never even beat the first two, I always get about half way through and start getting pissed at the puzzles and the music. I still have fond memories of Lolo though.

First thing I want to say in this thread is that it was a really sad story about you dad Blackout. Glad to hear that you eventually overcame it though.

For the topic, the games I have not played that I feel are really classics are games that were never released in Europe in the first place. Games like Chrono Trigger, all the Final Fantasys before VII, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG etc. I did however get an american snes when I got older, so now I have beaten most of those games as well except for Earthbound (which is crazy expensive) and Chrono Trigger (which i own both for the PS1 and DS and will beat some day). Also, I have not beaten the Half-Life-games, any of the Metroid Primes, and not really a lot of the games on the PS1&2. But I'm working on it!

Anything on the Sega Saturn, River City Ransom, Perfect Dark, a handful of Zelda games (never did get into anything that wasn't Link's Awakening or LttP), and I guess a bunch of stuff from obscure cconsoles.
