Unrelated note: the years 2000-2009 are officially dubbed "the naughties" from now until forever.

Hawk has spoken.

As an addendum to what I wrote, I wouldn't be horrendously shocked if there's some "11th hour" miracle that everyone crows about and uses to attempt to further their own personal or party agendas. Six months too late is six months too long. I'm staying inside tonight just in case some moron goes bugfuck crazy and thinks it's the end of the world. Guess we've got about five hours to see.

I'm making a looting list just in case the police shut down. I'll be waiting outside Walmart and as soon as the clock strikes midnight, I'm storming the joint.

I thought they were called "the noughts". "Noughtie" refers to an entity from that era, e.g. "noughties crime drama". And even then the moniker will at least last until 2101.

Also, I happen to bank with Navy Federal so at least I'm not completely boned. My daddy's been banking with them for like 30 years and they've always treated him right.

Shucks, I had my looting bag and my crowbar in hand ready to go. And what am I supposed to do with all these molotov cocktails? I made so many of them. I'm so depressed now, I'm going to lay down.

The moment I realized that people running for president were allowed to take funding from corporations that could be directly affected by policies made by said person running for the office in question if said runner won the election in question, and that the funding had a direct involvement in the public's awareness of the candidate that accepted the "contribution" was when I realized this is all a gigantic crock of shit.

Conflict of interest not being interesting to the public is the status quo!

Not sure why everyone bought into this nonsense, (other than 24 hour over-hyped news networks) the government had absolutely no intentions of shutting down and leaving deployed military with no pay. It was not going to happen, nothing more than a political bluff from the tea party to push the agenda they were elected to push I guess.

Anyways I'm always amazed at the anger at Obama over this, political views have become like sports, if you like the Patriots (Reps), you hate the fucking Jets (Dems) and vice versa. The days of moderation are over, and we will all suffer as a nation for this. As Bill Maher said, the Democratic Party in the last thirty years has moved to the center right, morphing into a party for hedge fund managers, credit card companies, banks, defense contractors, big agriculture and the pharmaceutical lobby. And they sit across the aisle from a small group of religious lunatics, flat Earthers and civil war rein-actors who mostly communicate by AM radio and call themselves the Republicans,”

With that I'm off to have a tea party with my 9 month old daughter.

This is what I decided politics is right before I left high school. I noticed that every political speech campaign boils down to "Vote for me, not the other guy, because I'm right" and every response is "Nuh uh, I know everything and I didn't murder any children".

Just as a quick epilogue to the whole situation, the 38.5 billion dollars that were 'trimmed' from the budget was great. Almost so great as to nullify the 51.4 billion dollars that the US spent in the 8 days that the budget received 24/7 coverage. I give it ten years, at most, and then whatever's left of the country is going to look VERY different.

Not sure who you work with and I know this is beside the point as the crisis has been "averted" but I work for the GSA and any contractor that is currently under a contract would have been allowed to continue work under that contract. If you are just under an IDIQ contract and everything you do needs to be signed for approval then you would have been mostly SOL. But if you are signed on to do some work for some money, you would have been paid. That money had been obligated already.
