Does anyone else dislike the Mega Man character?

I find him childish and annoying...

Somehow back as a kid I made the decision that my canon-armed gunslinger of choice was Samus. Now as an adult, that decision is reaffirmed and much clearer to me.

I feel the same way about Mega Man as I do about Mario Sunshine. It feels like friendly cushy version of a serious game. Of course, it is no secret that I suck at platformers, and therefore I can't beat a single MegaMan game. I assure you this has nothing to do with my distaste for the blue pest. I enjoy Mario, Contra, and Castlevania without ever having beaten those games either. (This is now making me sad)

I suppose that it didn't help growing up watching Captain N I really couldn't stand the character or the voice actor.

In the end, somehow I equate Pokemon with Mega Man. Games with characters that are wildly loved and cherished by so many, and I just can't understand why.

I can't remember Mega Man having a personality but the traget audience for the Mega Man games were children, no doubt about that.

Mega Man is supposed to be Astro Boy. That's why he's designed that way.

Do you mean his personality in Captain N or the other TV shows that Mega Man appeared in, or just the games? Because to be honest, MM never really seemed to have much of a personality at all to me.

It isn't just his personality, it is the entire character, back story, place in this/his world and the effects of his existence.

The similarities between Mega Man and the Pokemon concept is amazing. My guess is that most people who like one, like the other, and those who dislike one, also dislike the other.

You've played yet never beaten a Mario game? Wow, you suck.

That isn't entirely true.

I have beaten Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy.

I have never beaten a 2D Mario game though.

Eh I only ever beat Mega Man X with a friend coaching me through each step and level, the rest I never beat on my one.

You didn't even beat Super Mario 3? What about tagging along as a second player?

What about Mario 2 as the Princess? That shit's cake!

No.

No.

For me, it was like being denied cake. Maybe it was because I used to be lactose intolerant... Perhaps now that I am not, I could win!

You really need to try. I beat SMB 1, 2, 3, Lost Levels and SMW. If I can do it, you can do it.

Games with limited motion options that require precise timing and control with 1 or 2 hit health are generally not games that I play well.

It isn't like I can't beat one game. I legitimately can't be most of them.

Once a game has a degree of flexibility, I am much better. I am actually pretty good at most first and third person shooters.

At least do SMB 2 then. You can get up to a four or five hit health bar (hearts), regain life through levels and have far more interactivity with objects than in the first. It also doesn't require as much precise timing, especially if (as someone'd mentioned) you use Princess. Just hover!

I always felt that SMB2 deserved a sequel. I have a cool concept for how it could play in 3D in my head.

I don't like Pokemon, but I love Mega Man. I don't care for the character though, it is the gameplay that is king with those games.

I have played this game before... I have played this game for hours, days... I remember when it was new... I remember when I forgot about it and then was exited to replay it.

I still die in pits and from being hit by things due to timing.

Maybe you're just not starting small enough. Try beating Mario Teaches Typing first and work your way up from there.

I have wrecked that game... and I still own it.

Being able to type 80-100wpm helps.

I'm the same way, except for some reason I make an exception for Metal Slug.
