				http://thecable.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2011/04/05/government_shutdown_would_mean_soldiers_stop_getting_paid
| Quote: |
| One consequence of a government shutdown -- which will occur on April 8 unless Congress passes a new funding bill -- is that members of the military will no longer be paid, even though they will continue to work and fight. And as legislators and the Obama administration struggle to avoid a shutdown, officials are preparing contingency plans to keep key national security and foreign policy activities running when the money tap runs dry.
In the event of a shutdown, all uniformed military personnel would continue to work but would stop receiving paychecks, an official familiar with the government's planning told The Cable. As April 8 falls in the middle of the Defense Department's two-week pay period, military personnel would actually receive a paycheck totaling half the normal amount.

Wonderful. So my April 15th Check might be halved if Congress doesn't get their shit together.

Not a settling feeling. I'm sure my Bill's will except that as an excuse.

I think the government should sell Hawaii on ebay. That should be a nice chunk of change and we wouldn't have to argue so much about funding for a while.

It isn't, and I love how all the sides are trying to pin it on one another when the truth of the matter is, they fucked up. They should've taken care of this shit last month, or February. Maybe too much time taking $48,000 dollar football weekends kept them from getting shit done. Now the people who're responsible for keeping our country safe'll be the people getting the shaft and Congress and other government officials who're responsible will still be cashing their checks, or just coasting on all the money that the fucking lobbyists and corporations that pander to them to get them to pass legislation beneficial to their bottom line: profit margins. I feel for you Atma, I really do, and hopefully things won't come to that, but if it does happen, it's really going to outline how fucked up things really are.

It baffles me how this even happens. How about the Senators get their pay halted instead. We wouldn't even hear about this in that case.

Of course not. There'd be a riot if the Senate Majority Leader only got 4,000 dollars for a bi-weekly paycheck instead of 8,000. Fucking anarchy. It boggles my mind how they can even think that they understand 'the average American' when they make about six times more, on average.

Dude. If you knew you were gonna get a refund, why the hell did you wait this long to file your taxes? I got my refund months ago, I filed my taxes two days after I got my W-2.

Anyway, this is not a new thing. Government shutdowns have happened multiple times, multiple times in the last few decades even. Not a big deal, it's only being made out to be this time for whatever reason.

What sector, if you don't mind me asking? I'm a government employee, all our funding comes from HUD, nobody's talking about us being out of work.

Hah... they are talking about shutting CT down for 2-3 weeks. Yes, shutting down our state government.
 What the fuck?

 As for the federal fuckups...

I don't know about any of you, but I don't want people with training and guns to be pissed off at the country as a whole... people get fucking shot when that happens.

Right now Obama looks like a little kid who really has to pee but isn't near a bathroom. Grabbing his crotch and wiggling around uncomfortably in front of a nation that needs decisions that are in the best interest of the majority of its citizens. The country needs to reduce its debt and excessive spending. He may not be able to directly make it happen, but he sure as fuck can put the pressure on in a very public way.

As for the suggestion that all politicians not receive pay, I think that beyond that, their personal assets should be frozen until this is resolved. When soldiers families lose their homes, I feel no compassion whatsoever for politicians who just want to bicker and play games for their political teams.

What? I'm pretty sure he's talking about his April 15th paycheck, since Active Duty Military gets paid the 1st and 15th of every month.

I don't think obama directly can be blamed for this. The house republicans might not like his initial plans but it seems like it would be favorable to swallow the budget for now for the sake of the people. And later renegotiate when the government isn;t at stake.

I'm not dying to bring up a sensitive issue, but I haven't seen any concrete proof that he was born on US soil, and I have logically deduced that there was a HELL of a lot of motivation for his mom and grandparents to forge whatever necessary so that he would be considered a natural-born citizen. One need only look at the case of Elian Gonzalez to see the dangers that he would have been facing as a child were he not considered a US citizen.

The way I see it, if he's not a natural born citizen, then that makes it ok for Arnold Schwarzenegger to become president. We just need to find some proof and the door will be wide open.

Or you could, you know, take the more logical position and conclude that, since the law was still standing when he was inaugurated, basically everything he's done will be open to nullification(lawyers, correct me on this if I'm wrong.)

Not that I think that would happen. Even if they had concrete proof that he was born in Kenya or wherever plastered on every wall in every city, he would not be removed from office.

Besides, the whole point is for him to be found out. Just like the whole point of 9/11 is for it to be revealed as a government conspiracy later. The government conspired to have itself be revealed as nefarious evil-doers, for it will make the public lose all faith in the republic and clamor for a new solution, and a solution will be provided. Of course, it will be provided by the same people that set up the whole thing in the first place. The truthers are getting just as played as the average slob.

Dude, don't be a retard. I hate Obama and all, but there's no way he'd be president if he wasn't born here. You REALLY think that Bill Clinton isn't connected/resourceful enough to find that shit out for sure so that Hillary could have won the nomination?

Correct. I filed mine January 28th, the day I got my W-2
I feel for you too Excell. I'm at least guaranteed back-pay once they get their shit together. A lot of Contractors aren't, and also aren't promised they'll even have Jobs.

This whole thing is just a huge fuck up on the US Government's part, and as mentioned, of course their check won't stop.

One good thing I heard though, is all the VA Clinics and Veteran Benefits won't stop for those people, since VA Benefit Buildings get all their money for the year up front. Can't promise anything for next year though.
