L.A. Noire, one of the most anticipated games due out on May 17th, will not only be getting a special demo featuring some gameplay followed by a Q&A at New York's prestigious Tribeca Film Festival on April 25th but it also an official selection. This marks the first time a major film festival has honored a video game as an official selection, and from what we've seen so far it seems justified
L.A. Noire really seems to be pushing the boundaries between film and gaming to a whole other level with all of the advanced "MotionScan" technology and what is sure to be a sprawling story of 1940's Los Angeles crime. Rockstar Games, the studio that brought us the immensely entertaining Grand Theft Auto series and Red Dead Redemption, may have outdone themselves on this one and the folks at Tribeca took notice:
“What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking,” said festival director Geoff Gilmore. “It's an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier.” |

It's pretty cool that a video game is getting shown at a upscale film festival. But I can't help but think about those film nerd/critic types who scoff at the idea of a video game being screened at one of there shindigs.
Meh.
