I'd invest some of it in some TV ads for a product that doesn't exist.

I would have just bought a hooker and paid her to sit around for an hour for 29,995,000(the old man said he could hire whoever he wanted, and I don't bang hookers.) Then I would have used the remaining 5 grand to pay for room and board for the next 29 days.
Although I suppose a bum could just as easily be hired, but a bum's not so nice to look at for a hour. |
I think he closed that loophole too. Though I can't remember, it has been a while.

New York (CNN) -- One lucky winner in upstate New York chose the right numbers in Friday night's Mega Millions lottery, which has a jackpot of $312 million, the New York Lottery said Saturday.
The winning ticket was sold at Coulson's News Central in Albany, New York.
If the winner chose the cash option when buying the ticket, he or she will receive a one-time, lump-sum payment of $198 million. That amount reflects all the cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool.
Friday night's winning numbers were 22, 24, 31, 52 and 54. The Mega Ball number was 4.
No one has yet come forward to claim the prize, the New York Lottery said.
Mega Millions is played in 42 states and is the biggest jackpot game in the country, according to the lottery. |
Maybe FNJ? lol.
Either way, I think it would be stupid to get the Lump Sum. Take the installments so you can't blow all of your damn money off the hit.
And I wouldn't tell a fucking soul until I had everything settled, and then it would be my direct family and that's it. |
Always take the lump sum. If I still have my note from finance, I could calculate how much that jackpot would be worth over that period of time if you don't take lump sum. First off, when you factor inflation (that's just the tip of the ice berg) you would not be getting 312 million in today's dollars. You probably end up with a lot closer to that lump sum payment. Plus you get to invest it right off the bat.

Man, that amount of money would only get me around 27 nuclear warheads, probably less considering I would have to buy them on the black market. How am I supposed to protect myself with so few warheads? And what about a spaceship to get the hell off of this planet? I may be able to have one built and pay to get it launched, but I would not be able to buy enough women and food to bring with me to populate the stars and shit.
Fuck that money.

What usually pisses me off is that the usual winner of those bib jackpots have no business playing the lotto to begin with, that is, retired people who are pretty much set up to begin with, people who afe filthy rich already, and the occasional moron.
Give the chance to someone who really needs that money once in a while, will ya?

It's been said before but richard pryor in the 80's probably wouldn't have a problem spending a lot of money in a real short time.
Anyone want to go to a 30 million dollar coke party?

The lump is a rip-off. If you take the lump sum, you get a little more than half of the actual jackpot. And after taxes, you get a little more than half of the lump sum. So yeah, you get fucked.
I'd take the installment plan. It's done over 20 years, and I believe it's done yearly. That's fine. As long as I get one payment right away, I'd be fine.
I wouldn't care so much about the money, as I would about using the media attention received from winning the lottery to turn myself into a D-List Celebrity with a reality show.

The guy who won still hasn't turned up to claim the prize, so if there's anything behind that, he'll be a D-lister for sure.
