Being that I've never read the comics, its not bothering me one bit, and I'm loving the show.

It looks like that grenade ended up serving a purpose after all. Nicely done! I'm glad they're out of the CDC building already.

Haha, yep. Though, I kind of hated the presentation of the grenade. The timid, abused woman decides that its a good idea to just stroll around with a live grenade instead of giving it to someone who may actually be able to put it to use? "Oh yeah, I forgot to give you back your grenade, it's just here in my purse."
Any idea when this is supposed to start up again? I really hope it isn't Fall '11.

I'd have to point to a little Deus Ex from that. If she had given it back to Rick before, he could have used it when they were trying to find Merle to distract the zombies so Glenn could have gotten the bag and left or before getting into the CDC using it as a way to get in. But yeah, the woman just was like "Here you go! I saved it for you and didn't use it on any zombies when we were attacked at the camp"

I agree about the Grenade thing, in fact, i Kinda thought the whole last episode was kind "meh", and we never heard anything about the guy and his kid from the beginning, or what happened to Merrel or however you spell it.
Either way, I can't wait for the new season, until then, I suppose I'll try to get my hands on the comics and read them.
EDIT: http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2010/12/07/the-walking-dead-finale-breaks-ratings-records/?hpt=T2
The Walking Dead Final Episode set Ratings Records. Also stated, that the new season's release date has not been confirmed but is expected to be Halloween of next year, also mentioned AMC regreted not making more episodes for the 1st season.

Just recently dove into book one of The Walking Dead, and it pretty much covers the whole first season of the show and then some. There are definitely some major differences from the novel to screen play but it all seems to follow the same linear path. Not everything is dead on, but I will say that some of what took place in the show is literally straight from the novel. I won't spoil anything for anyone but I will urge whomever hasn't already, to definitely pick up the novel. It's well worth it.

Totally. There is a lot more that goes on in the book then what happens in the show to this point. After reading through book one, I must say that I prefer the comics much better.

There were many announcements made at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo last weekend, but one of the most eye-opening of them all was when ”The Walking Dead” actress Laurie Holden relayed a rumor that horror novelist Stephen King was going to write an episode of the series. That ignited a firestorm of speculation – speculation that was turned into anticipation when the rumor was confirmed with the novelist himself.
“['The Walking Dead' showrunner Frank Darabont] has expressed enthusiastic interest for Season 2 or possibly 3,” King told Entertainment Weekly, confirming Holden's comments in a C2E2 panel report by Comic Book Resources.
EW goes on to state that this dream project is still early in negotiations, but King said that he’d like to co-write the episode with his son, Joe Hill, who has his own comic series headed for the TV screen in "Locke & Key."
The second TV season of “The Walking Dead” is expected to debut in October 2011, and Darabont and Kirkman are reportedly mapping out the new season as we speak.

I really hope that they get this back in line with the comic. Nothing would piss me off more then for this to completely go off on it's on tangent. They have already deviated from the comic considerably.

That's my qualm about the show. I really think that a lot of the stuff that's been added/changed is really purposeless, other than stretching the episodes out a little. Now, what I'm REALLY interested in seeing is how they handle Mich... nevermind. Read the comics first and you'll know what I mean.

I don't even know if they would even introduce her character at all.

And that's my point exactly. They're going to have to do a lot of different things if they want to be able to show some of the really fucking stark brutality that takes place in the comic in the show. I would be willing to see the Stephen King episode, though; I try to stay open-minded, but I'm not convinced of how it translates yet.

A zombie detour gives a whole new meaning to a mindless commute.
The popular AMC television show "The Walking Dead" began filming its second season here in Atlanta and is shutting down a state highway south of the city for most of this week.
A detour on Ga. 20 in Henry County near the Atlanta Motor Speedway will be shut down through late Thursday, Kimberly Larson, a spokeswoman for the state's Department of Transportation told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The detour began Sunday.
The Channel 2 Action News helicopter has an image of the show's set. There are dozens of cars backed up and strewn along the highway.
The AJC reports that traffic is being detoured off the highway in both directions at East Main Street.
"It's a big inconvenience. I live right off of 20 so for me to go to McDonough where I work, I have to go all the way around through Clayton, which is extra gas," driver Demond Williams told Channel 2 Action News' Carol Sbarge.
Larson told the AJC that DOT issued a press release saying the highway would be closed for road work because it wanted to limit the amount of people showing up to watch the filming of TV show.
"The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, and Sarah Wayne Callies. From the show's website: "Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Lincoln) finds himself utterly alone. The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. 'The Walking Dead' tells the story of the weeks and months that follow after the apocalypse."
"Georgia is now among the top five states in the nation for film and TV production with more than 274 productions shot in Georgia from July 2010 through April 2011, bringing in more than $589.2 million in investment to Georgia," it said in the release.

I'm pretty excited for the new season to start. I think I can wait all summer but it's gonna be rough.

For some reason my brain keeps mixing this show with Boardwalk Empire, and I end up with Steve Buschemi fighting zombies in the 50's (which would be an awesome idea for a series).

So excited to see this start up.
I'd like to see Morgan return this season. I'm a big fan of the actor who played him in the pilot. That said, I doubt it'll happen.

I'm not all that excited about this season. It has steered completely away from it's source material. It's beginning to pull a Resident Evil on us. Unless they can push this thing back on track, I'll be disappointed...somehow I doubt that though.

Why can't it stray and still be good??????????? Everyone is so worried it won't match the comic frame for frame, just watch the show and judge it on its own instead of comparing the two the whole time.

NO! If I don't know exactly what's going to happen at all times then I can't enjoy myself. Surprises are for assholes! I don't care if the writing, action, and acting are good, or the fact that the comic author loves that the show is able to explore things he never got to because he was afraid the comic would be cancelled...if it doesn't match the comic exactly it's pure shit! SHIT, I say.

I don't understand this mentality. I've never been one of those comic fans that had to have the exact same story told to me in the exact same way. As long as they're faithful to the characters and their motivations, the creators endorse what's been done and it's good, who cares if it strays a bit?
I've read the comics for years. They're great, but so is the show. I can appreciate both for their own merits.

There are a lot of characters that aren't even in the show from the comics, let alone characters from the show that are made out to have important roles that shouldn't even be alive at this point. I guess it's more irratating then anything in my mind. I like to see movies and shows that pay homage to it's source material, and for them to stick close to it. That is my kind of mentality. I'm a purest.

Production just wrapped up along the above interstate Friday. I'm not sure if that's the end of production or just for all scenes near Georgia 20.

Well, to be fair, they've had one season. It has essentially covered the events leading up to the end of the first volume of the comics. Given that the the timelines relatively sync up, it should be expected that a lot of people haven't been introduced.
That said, they are deviating quite a bit, but as long as they're writing good material and the comic creator is on board with it, I don't see anything to be upset about.
