lol i get it.
its actually quite true though. people w/black genes have a more dense body, which makes them less buoyant. so, its harder for them to learn to swim since they sink easier.

because he learned swimming.
i would say this commercial try's to show the marine corps as an institution that will be helpful to you and your life. There is no way this commercial could be meant as racist. You know why? Because you can't promote with racism. Nobody wants to see that.

well, the stereotype is that all black people cant swim. so, a black dude saying he had to conquer his fear & learn swimming can be misconstrued as racist.
so, i understand atma's original point. obviously, the marine corps is not trying to say its racist, but i can see how someone might believe it to be so.

That cliche doesn't exist in austria, it's the first time i heard about it. Our main imigrants are from Turkey, we don't have much black people.

Yeah it's a common stereotype in the US that "black people can't swim".
All I'm saying is the commercial could have been just as effective if they would have filmed it with a white guy or really any other race overcoming it.
I don't really give a shit, but one of my Black Friends who saw it with me said "That's the most racist shit I've seen all month, why couldn't it be a honky?"
That is a direct quote by the way.

This is just one in a series. There's another one where a white guy is getting owned on the basketball court. But after becoming a Marine it shows him dunking over a bunch of black dudes. I'll try to find that video...

I'm pretty sure the SS and the AB or AN would disagree with you...

This reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me. When he enlisted in the Navy, one of the test they had to do was swim the length of a swimming pool. There was one black guy that was about 6'4" and ~300lbs of solid muscle in the group, and when they all jumped into the water he sunk straight to the bottom. He kinda shrugged and then walked the entire length of the pool under water and passed the exam.

Hahaha. Nice.
One of the things the Seals have to do is swim the Olympic pool while holding their breath, word is that some pass out, but if they drift into the other end of the pool they pass.

The AB/AN (Arayan Brotherhood/Arayan Nations) most definitely still exists, and although most are dead now, a good portion of the SS, particularly scientists and intelligence agents, were brought over to the US underneath Project: Paperclip. That's not even mentioning how many escaped during ODESSA.

What I'm trying to tell you is that it's perfectly feasible to promote via racism. I'm not saying it's a great idea, or nice, or palatable, but especially in our multicultural world, people's xenophobia/race bias is, in many cases, considerably closer to the surface. Me? I can't wait until it's all gone and we're one happy grey race.
