The N64 controller is one of the most perfectly contoured controllers of all time, but is horribly flawed because of the way in which the control stick's narrow base would quickly grind down, leaving the stick loose and unresponsive. NO LONGER!

These bad boys are replacement N64 control sticks, but the stick has the large base of the gamecube controller, ensuring no grindage and a permanently responsive stick. Also, only five bucks. This may be the best purchase I have ever made.

I might consider that, actually. That way, my N64 controllers will last a lifetime.

That's pretty badass. If I had any clue where my N64 was, I'd probably get one.

It blows me away that this is a /new/ third party accessory launching for a console that is like 16 years old.
Cool though.

These kind of things have been available on ebay for years. You can also purchase brand new pin connectors for your NES systems to get them working like new again(no more cartridge fiddling.)

I've never seen how people have THIS much issue with the N64 controls. I ground the crap out of my controllers and they still work just fine, and wouldn't be willing to butcher a classic controller otherwise.

I'm always easy on controllers and even though I'm an admitted fanboy I will admit a few things about the N64 controller. I will always think the design and layout is fantastic, and that is just my opinion, but the issue with the stick grinding down is a real one.
I went through at least 3 or 4 controllers for my 64 and the reason all of them were replaced was that loose and clickety clackety analog stick. You would be playing a game and notice dust physically coming out of the little corners of the analog stick where it was grinding against something. Either that or the stick would just stop being responsive after a while. I'm not crying about it but it certainly was a real issue with me and most of my friends and family.

same here. no matter how careful & soft you are, those control sticks will eventually start coming loose

Agreed. I actually just got a N64 a few years ago, and bought a fucking completely new controller for it, but when I had a only a few stars left, Mario would now longer run (only walk) in one of the directions because the stick was already so loose in that one direction. So this is a real problem, however, it is not that bad in all games. But in games that rely on force-sensitive movement like Mario 64, the Zeldas etc, it is a game-breaker.
Is this thing easy to assemble by the way?

Very easy. I used to take mine completely apart and lubricate the stick itself (ha), and that was some work. This includes the entire bowl that the stick rests in, so you just take the casing off of the controller, unplug the old stick, and plug the new one in. The hardest part will be taking out the tiny screws inside the place where you plug in a rumble pack. That will take a very special sort of screw driver.

Hmm, this might be a good buy for me. I have two N64 controllers, one works almost flawlessly, and one is almost useless. This could easily replace the useless one.

Ok, so I was going to buy this as I said earlier, but of course they don't send to Norway. Anybody feel ready to buy two extra sticks, and send them to norway (or even better, find a store that sells them who actually does send here)?

Just got mine in the mail. It took me about ten minutes to assemble, and 95% of that time was simply using a screwdriver to open up the casing of the controller. This thing is fantastic. I gave it a test drive on a bunch of games, and they were all fabulous. At first I had trouble using it with F Zero X because it's so sensitive, but now that I'm used to it, I couldn't imagine playing it any other way. This is a must buy.
