It's been happening for a while but more and more often lately people are having their lives brought into light by either a video posted on youtube or a simple picture left somewhere.

I have to wonder why people still consider it shocking that a video containing them doing something stupid got put on the internet and now everyone's seen it.

Actually, I have to wonder why people post their inane webcam video made with the intent of pissing someone off, and get all surprised and cry when 4Chan, Zoklet, or any other group makes fun of them and takes whatever info they can find about the person and uses it to ruin their life.

Why can't people understand the internet is a dangerous thing :/

It's because the internet's pros still outweigh its cons for most people not aware of or unaffected by the latter.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

Simple: Internet killed and raped (in that order) common sense.

Yes, there are articles that will argue that humanity's getting smarter instead of dumber, but that degree on Astrophysics won't stop you from thinking that posting that orgy with 12 donkeys in Facebook is an awesome idea.

You know the scary/sad part? I'm sure someone must have done it already. I'm just too afraid to do a Google search to confirm it.

It wasn't on the first page of the Google search, but I won't go any farther than that.

I'm sure a certain percentage is smarter due some reason or the other (higher educational standards, better resources for teachers to teach from, SCIENCE!, etc) but I'm sure the vast majority is stupider due to automation in technology and instant gratification culture. I've got a room full of people to watch, most of which have more schooling than me, and all they seem to do is screw around on facebook / youtube and spell almost everything wrong. Confused

And now the search is out there. Google will now auto suggest "Orgy with 12 donkeys" to you whenever you type the letter "o" into the search line...

This reminds me of the "fun" game called "Google Sepukku"
You search for something that's clearly going to show you something disgusting, go to image search, set the safe filter to none, and scroll down. See how many pages it takes for you to want to kill yourself!
You can't win at this game. Razz

The internet is just a misused tool. But I think at one point, we're all guilty of shit we've done whether it's for "lulz" or just a chuckle. to try and paint others as idiots for doing pretty much the same shit is asinine. Through yes, some people do in fact go overboard.

Depends on the situation, but honestly if you're going to act like an idiot on camera and then post it online for thousands, if not millions of people to see, you need that reality check. But of course, a lot of these "celebs" keep that up in order to maintain the "fame", so honestly they're really not going to learn either way.

Yeah, people do that because they want to be famous and the internet is the easiest way to achieve a certain level of fame. They think if they post their "funny" video, they'll instantly become a Youtube celebrity and get a movie/modeling deal soon after.
