I am offended that .ca has not been mentioned in this thread.

Well, give us some examples of major Canadian sites that use .ca

Seems like a good way to keep kids away from porn (by making filtering easier), but unless it's mandatory for every provider of adult material it's pointless.

Well, we have .ca versions of google, msn, ebay, craigslist, and kijiji, but the highest ranked, uniquely Canadian domain is cbc.ca, our version of cnn.com.

There's no reason you guys couldn't just use regular Craigslist, MSN, eBay, and Google. CBC would be in trouble, as CBC.com is taken.

I don't think it would be a good idea for Canada to use the US's eBay. Their current eBay has auctions from Canada, and uses the Canadian currency. The US one has auctions from the US, and uses the US dollar for currency. Merging these would not be ideal, for those and other reasons.

It's just geared more toward Canadian content, I think. Plus the search suggestions on google.ca are from Canadian searches, and thus also focus on Canadian stuff more.

The only difference I once saw with local Google sites, is a button that allows you to have search results from the world, or just from your local country. Now the search results seem to cater to each person's country of residence (type cheesecake as a search, and you will get websites for local shops that sell, well, cheesecake).

Well, eBay could have you pick your home country and prioritize results from that country and display auctions in your home currency.
