It has been brought up in many other threads recently, but I thought I would bring it together here and post updates as they occur.

Half a year ago Google Chrome began to roll out updates on a rapid development cycle. They have gone from version 5 to 10 in 9 months and the results have been amazing. In the same time, Firefox has not released anything new. In fact, It has been over a year since a major feature update was released for Firefox.

Both projects are open source and both projects are huge in scope. Mozilla developers have decided they agree that updates aren't being pushed because they are grouped and linked together too tightly.

So a few weeks ago it was determined that a new plan for Firefox development would be created and that a rapid development cycle that was more modular for features would be implemented.

While it was just words a few weeks ago, now a plan has begun to take shape.

Here it is:

I personally use the browser that offers the best precision, features, and speed. Right now that is Google Chrome hands down. However, around the corner is Firefox 4, and if they are able to get this cycle moving, it looks like every 18 weeks it will receive some polishing and features. I am rooting for Mozilla to really get this right so that there are two amazing browsers pushing features to the limit. Unless Microsoft catches on very soon, I expect that they will be left behind and they most likely won't have any more chances to recover if they blow it again.

I've been petitioning the IT people to switch to Chrome or at least Firefox for a while now, but nope. Still using IE and still not shocked at the problems it has. Great news about Firefox, though. I'd used it until Chrome came out, and I'd be willing to switch back if it worked better.

I actually use a combination of Firefox and Chrome
I probably use firefox a tad bit more because I've been using it for so long.
There have been times where I've needed to do something I couldn't on firefox and did it with chrome, and there have been times where chrome not having a small feature (like being able to drag and drop images from the browser into a program such as paint.net) has made me go back to firefox for a bit.

Both browsers have their ups and downs but they both serve their purpose, and I plan to keep using both until one swallows up all the features of the other

When I'm using paint.net or any thing the requires a photo, with firefox I can just click and hold on the image, drag it to the task bar, and when whatever program comes up I can drop the image into it. When I try to do that with chrome it won't let me

EDIT: Come to think of it, I only ever need to drag and drop images with paint.net so it could be a limitation with that.

You are correct.

It looks like Chrome does not allow images to be saved to cache for opening by external programs.

I tried it on Photoshop and Paint.NET

To be honest, I have never used this workflow, mainly because I copy and paste, or save and open. However, it does seem like something that Google should add.

I agree with you. I'm lazy as hell so I like the drag and drop feature.

For the record I'm not saying one is better than the other. Simply that neither is living up to its full potential

Also, GP do you know of anything with Chrome and pipelining?

EDIT:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_pipelining
"Google Chrome does not support pipelining."

They should add this. Content heavy sites don't load as well as they could with Chrome

Also, firefox 4 is nice

Pipelining is a "neat trick" but it isn't error proof. Personally I think that Google should invest more effort into development, but not at the risk of alienating priority modifications.

If you read more about Pipelining you can see that it does have limitations and that it isn't as simple to make it work perfectly as bloggers would like to make it seem.
