Actually, they can be attacked, although it's usually the calves, as with almost any large whale...killer whales love to be mean motherfuckers and attack groups and eat the babies. They've also been known to attack even big whales by chasing them, tiring them out and then take turns jumping on them to eventually drown them.
You can almost say, they love to orca-strate attacks.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~

As I understand it, the full grown males don't hang out often with the women and children.
If being chased by an Orca, they could catch a quick breath and then just head down. Get to that point where the Orca starts to get dizzy from too much pressure and sit and laugh a little just below that. Echolocate in morse code:

I played a sperm whale in an RPG one time, and it was awesome until I got beached. The rest of my party just left me there to die.

Yeah... the not-blue area on the map I linked to is generally not a suggestion, but rather an instant kill zone for large marine life.

I'm sure it's different on RIFTs Earth. That said, at least they cut my PC up and gave most of the meat to a nearby coastal village.

I had Whale Song magic and was tremendously physically powerful. It was a mostly underwater campaign, and I accidentally got beached when I'd injured one of my flippers and was having trouble getting to the surface to breathe. In their infinite wisdom, my teammates decided that the best way to get me out of the water was by using a sub-borne rocket-propelled net launcher. It got him out of the water, just too far. And the coastal town where the rockets ended up landing was none too happy either.

I have no idea what this game is, but I am 100% interested in it now.

No, it's the pen and paper RPG Rifts. We were playing mostly on Rifts Earth in an undersea setting. I did it on a play by post for a while. The MMO Rift is actually being sued by Palladium Books for copyright infringement; he's (Kevin Siembieda, the guy who owns Palladium) won't win, but if you've got intellectual property, if you don't defend it, it sort of sets a precedent.

LOL, pretty much. Kevin Siembieda is a little sue happy, but I'd understand: Todd MacFarlane sued him over the use of the word "spawn" in his Nightspawn game and forced him to change it to Nightbane. MacFarlane then later attempted to use Mechanoids, which is a trademarked name from Palladium, for one of his toy lines. You can still see the spec figures on his site, I believe.
But anyhow, whales are cool and stuff. I did a whale-watching tour with my Mom and was really blown away by how peaceful they are.
