I am not suggesting that anyone use it as their primary browser, but if you have a version of IE that is not 9, you should probably consider upgrading it to 9.

Well, since I don't use IE at all, I feel no need to upgrade.

I've had IE9's beta installed for a few months as a secondary browser, and it's actually not terrible. It's a lot like chrome, but the damage to IE's reputation has already been done. This effort is too little, too late.

Puff, I agree that this is a late effort. Additionally they don't even come close to touching Chrome or Firefox in terms of usability or speed. The browser is infinitely better than IE6/7/8, but that is like saying that cleaning a pile of dog shit is infinitely better than cleaning elephant/cow/horse shit. In the end, it is worth the update for the sake of security and compatibility, but shame in Microsoft for not being able to see what the real issue is here.
IE, even with a market share as large as it has, is on its last legs. With the introduction of WebGL, and Firefox 4 about to come out and support it along side with Chrome, the web is going to become a legitimate application platform. IE9 can't hang with other modern browsers and for the first time in a long time, people will feel like they must switch browsers or not see new content.

I hate Chrome, why would I want a browser like Chrome?
Aside from the fact that malware is generally specifically designed to take advantage of IE security holes, it's a good browser. And if you don't go searching for porn, ROMs, and torrents, you shouldn't have to worry about such things. Aesthetically, it's my favorite browser.
I don't see myself upgrading to IE9, because it'll probably run like shit on my computer. IE8 doesn't run all the great on my computer, and IE9 is most certainly optimized for even higher specs.

In every test I have seen and run IE8 uses more system resources than IE9. Additionally IE9 does conform to more web standards than IE8.
It requires Windows Vista or better. So don't sweat it old man, your old dog XP machine is safe from the update.
Why would you hate Chrome? Because it is new? Because it is shiny? IE is a monolithic dinosaur. Yeah, it evolves, but it is close to extinction. The new breed of browsers include Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.
Unless you require ActiveX components or group policies the real question is, why would you use a stale, error prone, antique. The answer is because you are afraid of technological change. Yes, it takes some time to get used to something new, but unless you are interested in missing out on future content, you might want to begin to ease into a world where IE isn't the only browser you drive.

I use Firefox. When I first heard about Chrome, possibly here on these forums from you, I was told that it was stripped down and faster than other browsers. Well, it wasn't. I noticed no significant differences between Firefox and Chrome, other than aesthetic ones. So I got rid of it. Honestly, a browser is a browser. As long as it gets to you to Facebook and SydLexia.com, that's all that matters.

Firefox is a great browser and I use it regularly. However, it hasn't been updated with a major release in over a year. I switched to Chrome when all of my favorite extensions were finally available on it. That was back in August 2010. Since then Chrome has moved from version 5 to version 10. They have added:
Browser syncing, cross platform scripting for OS integration, tab changes, built in PDF support, Flash/PDF sandboxing, cloud printing, WebP/WebM/WebGL support Google Native Client (Sandboxing), and a slew of other features.
With major and minor revisions they have implemented over 500 bug fixes in the last half year.
Most likely you don't understand all of these features, but they do many things for you that improve your experience on the web. Firefox agrees! They are going to roll out most of these features themselves. They just have a poor process for new feature implementation. They have stated that they need to change to a different model for updates in order to remain relevant.
So, yes, originally Chrome was nothing special. Now, it is by far the best browser choice available for regular web surfing. No doubt that could change very soon when Firefox 4 goes gold.

There's no such thing as a "web experience". I don't visit a lot of sites, and any site I do visit is optimized for Firefox and IE.
Now, I'm sure you're right. I'm sure that are some great things that Chrome does that other browsers don't. Just like there are flavors that fancy old wines have that the $20 bottle of Cook's I usually buy doesn't have. And those extra subtle flavors are great for people who appreciate such things. But they don't get you drunk any faster.

That metaphor was amazing.
Just needed to put that out there.

Oh what has IE9 copied from other browsers then since they can never come up with a bright idea of their own?

I'm Firefox until greasemonkey sees complete integration into Chrome.
But then FF4 still doesn't support all of my scripts. Sigh.

Chrome seems to crash a lot less on these horribly infected ancient break room computers, IE and Firefox crash all the time.

I've looked up those two downloads, and while it's nice to try to be safer, those two programs seem to have a lot of shortcomings and disadvantages to the point where I probably won't even bother with them. What good is protection if you can't use Youtube especially when that protection is rather minimal? Can you give me a reason why I should use them anyway?

I generally think that Tor is great if you download the portable version, and put it on a flash drive for use with computers that you think might be monitored. I personally just use those fancy proxy sites for using the Internet with computers with monitored/filtered internet access.
