Wow, I thought other forums were harsh, but this kind of punishment takes the cake.

I so call bullshit on this. I understand the goal, but it feels so very, very unethical to me. I PAID for my games. They're mine, DLC be damned. Just because I act like an asshat on your forums doesn't mean you have the right to restrict access to the game I paid you fifty dollars for. Can Barnes and Noble confiscate your book collection because you behave badly in their store? No, because that would be retarded. I see no difference.
They may technically have the right (since you only buy a "license" for your game), but that doesn't make it right for you to take away something someone paid full price for. Whole thing rubs me the wrong way.

Yeah, the digital age sucks. As purchased content such as games and movies move away from physical medium, corporations get more and more control over our behavior and opinions.
Mad that your iPod broke? Don't curse out Apple or they might delete your iTunes account.

Well to be fair to Bioware, they must feel they need to take those kind of extreme measures to discourage bad forum behavior which unfortunately, is very ubiquitous in today's society. And with TOR coming out soon, I'm sure they're anticipating a black cloud of very socially inept, horrible people about to hit their forums.
And again, to me, it's another one of those situations like the Patriot Act where I feel that as long as you're a good guy and you behave, then what do you have to worry about? Let the asshats get banned from their games; it'll teach them to not be asshats. It won't affect you because you're a good person.

Yeah, except that the definition of asshat is subjective. This isn't "if you say the word boodlehaufer you will be banned". No, it is completely subjective to a review panel based on community standards and a report button that can be spammed for any reason.
If they want to make the TOR community directly related to the TOR game, I am fine with that. However, it should be limited to just that community and game.
This would be like BattleNet users who play WoW being banned from accessing DLC for Guitar Hero 5 because they were dicks on the StarCraft II message boards. The line should be drawn at the specific game or at the very least at the developer, not the publisher.

Seriously, I'm with Hawk on this.
I gave you 59.99 for a game. So. Give me my fucking game.
Ban me from the Forum, Tech Support, or whatever, but not the game I paid for, PLUS other games you have made. Completely ridiculous.

I would think the idea of a business was to make money.
If I buy a game that I can't play, I'm not going to buy another one from the same people.

Clearly the visionary business model of the future. I commend your foresight.

I think youse guys are reading too much into it. It's really badly worded, but I think it's saying that if you act like an asshole on their boards, they can take away your ability to play online on their servers. I don't think they can delete your game from their hard drive or block you from downloading new stuff from it, but they can certainly stop you from popping up in their online servers and screaming SHITCOCK SHITCOCK SHITCOCK into your mic.
They can't take away a game you paid for, and I don't think that's what this message is saying they will do, but they can certainly block access to a service if you don't abide by the terms, just as any business can kick you out if you don't follow their rules. (Or, to extend SH's metaphor, B&N can't take your book away, but they can tell you to take your book and GTFO). Remember, Community Ban means "The community is tired of your shit, so please leave".

It's not Bioware. It clearly says they will only ban you from the Bioware forums. It's EA community you don't want to piss off.
I have a feeling that if someone gets their games banned, they will feel justified in pirating them so they can continue to play what they paid for, and sadly I feel that they would be right.

Kid was blocked from playing his copy of Dragon Age II because he supposedly called EA "The Devil" on their forum.
EA claims it was a glitch.

The issue isn't them banning me from their forums, the issue is they block your e-mail address associated to the forum account.
You need that E-Mail address to play some of their games, it does an online verification check to make sure your not pirating games and access to your DLC (which costs money as well).
Once that E-Mail is banned, and you try to log onto their servers, it rejects you, and then rejects your verification, leaving you with an installed game you can get to the main menu with, but no further.
That is fucking weak sauce.

Why even bother going on the EA forums in the first place? I can only imagine what scum and villainy reside there.
