What I didn't like about The Departed was the lame ending. I would've preferred to see Damon live and forced with the burden of knowing that everything he had is now gone. His death added absolutely nothing to an already good movie. Same goes for the movie The Punisher...Travolta dying was not needed.

Scorsese's movie wasn't called Infernal Affairs now was it? I don't care how that movie ended, because they got it wrong too. Killing someone off just to simply tie up loose ends doesn't add to anything that wasn't already told during the movie. Sometimes not showing what happens to someone at the end makes it better than what would happen if you did.

It's all good, I made the mistake of not making sure I knew what I was referring to. But I just think that we the viewers are so spoiled on how a movie is supposed to end, we fail to see how good something is if nothing was done at all. All I'm saying is that while I loved The Departed, the ending was cliche and pointless.

movies are a risky business. too many bombs out there, so big studios are afraid of experimenting w/something out of the norm. they would rather play it safe and please the majority of the audience, than risk the movie being a bomb.

That sounds about right to me too. I just found the Prestige to be the superior movie in all phases as it just did everything really well with a very unique story and setting. Also, I'm just a sucker for twists, especially complex ones (probably why I love the Saw movies so much when no one else does). The Illusionist, while entertaining was a little cliche, oddly paced and just wasn't as much fun to watch.

Seriously, The Prestige is definitely on my top 10 list of most favorite movies. Having said that though, I'm fine with Departed beating it at the Oscars because I also loved that movie and understand that Oscar was more of a make-up Oscar to Scorsese for his not getting one for Goodfellas.

Yeah, actually that sounds a lot better.

Jeff Bridges did a nice job at True Grit, i just watched it a couple of hours ago. It's not an outstanding performance but it is worthy of an oscar. the movie is also watchable.

I just like how the little girl is up for "Best Supporting Actress" despite being the lead character the entire time. I guess it's the Academy's way of making sure she wins in the same way Timothy Hutton did.
