I head the same stat before, but it's Michael Moore stat if I remember correctly.

On a sillier note, what if all lethal weaponry was banned and destroyed, and all disputes had to be solved with vast armies wielding Nerf guns and Supersoakers? I bet the whole world would be friends after a few rounds of that.

I doubt it. People would just start putting nails in the end of the nerf projectiles and biological agents in the super soakers.

Every war and political decision should be solved by Paper-Rock-Scissors. That's how all my arguments end, just make sure you tell the other player it is a best of three.

Demographics accounts for this more than anything, I reckon.

Although, your immigration policy up there is going to destroy you, quicker than the same will destroy us ironically enough.

Bullshit, we would have wars all the time. Although yeah, probably friendly wars.

Thanks for making me look up Roshambo, which led to sack tapping, which led to school pranks, which led to Kancho, which is apparently considered a "childish prank" in Japan.

I was wondering when I visited Japan why everyone was trying to stick their fingers up my ass.

In just over one page, we go from gun totting Texans to the Japanese trying to sodomize us with their fingers. Brilliant.

I like Chris Rock's argument...make guns legal but make bullets expensive as hell.

I never was gung-ho over guns, but as a few have mentioned, gun control laws practically disarm the innocent from the murderers who don't care about any laws.

They have a small, generally homogeneous population. That makes all the difference in the world.

Which part of Switzerland you're referring to? They're pretty unique in every way imaginable.

What's really bothering me, is the whole issue with civilian-owned firearms. In my utopia, civilians wouldn't even carry guns for self-defense. It's fucked up that so many do. Sounds like a country that's fighting a civil war or something.

I agree that in world, where everybody already has a gun, it might do more harm than good to ban them in specific places. At least in the short-term. But the problem is still there, and in the long run, bigger amount of civilian-owned firearms will probably backfire.

Because I sound like a hippie now, I'll add that I own some hunting weapons and did a bunch of shooting during my conscription.

Guns are so old fashioned anyway. Biological agents are where it's at. The first kid that snaps and decides to take out the school by putting biological agents in the vents will revolutionize the mass murder scene. Cho Seung-Hui? More like Cho Seung-Who?

Hey guys, the answer to lowering gun violence is regulation, not handing one out to every asshole on the street. Sure, those statistics are neat and all, but give everyone a gun and soon all it's going to take is a car back-firing for a bloody shoot out to occur.

So the easiest way is to take them away from everyone, right? That way only the government has them. No thanks.

The government should just give every American citizen a briefcase sized nuclear weapon when they turn 21. I predict that would drive crime rates WAY down.

Nah, if that happened some dick would use it in a youtube prank and vaporize half a city, it would go viral and suddenly everyone would be doing it, for the lulz.

Wouldn't one nuclear weapon going off detonate everyone else's nuclear weapon, multiplying the effects? I'd imagine that if ever person had one, the chain reaction would destroy all of North America in minutes.

Well in that case what would be in place to stop some random country that hates us from sneaking over the border and setting one random schmo off to kill the entire country? Not every well thought out if you ask me!

It's all Obama's fault for giving us all nuclear weapons in the first place. What the hell was he thinking?

"Gun-free zones are shooting galleries for the mass murderers," Titus said.

*facepalm*

Yeah cause i walk out of my house on a daily basis to see people getting mowed down in the streets by these so-called "mass murders".

I've already commented on this in another thread but everytime i see a comment like this it infuriates me to the nth degree of infuriation.

This is such a stupid and radical view and it's totally idealised.

If you gave every single person on the planet a gun. Guess what? There would still be gun crime, there would still be mass murderers.

...and by logic if everyone has a gun there would be more more of them.

The fact is, this seems to be a case of "oh we can eliminate this". You can't eliminate gun violence. It will never ever ever ever ever happen. So this is totally pointless.

Also how often do you hear about a mass killing spree? Hardly ever. The amount of the population who fits into the category of being a serial killer is so ridiculously low that they are trying to stop a ridiculously low minority.

Tl;dr

Giving people guns will solve nothing. There will still be gun crime. This just presupposes that by giving everyone guns you will be able to stop it, that's not the case. It's like people who think that adding an extra lane to a motorway or freeway helps solve traffic. It just creates more traffic. Same principle here.
