From jalopnik.com

wrote:
Detroit may be on the way back from ruin and perdition thanks to Eminem and Chrysler, but Detroit Mayor Dave Bing isn't above considering good ideas no matter their source.

When one Twitterer suggested Detroit follow Philadelphia by erecting a statue of its most famous movie star, Bing replied with this tweet:

"There are not any plans to erect a statue to Robocop. Thank you for the suggestion."

He is above actually implementing the ideas, but not above considering them. Which, frankly, is a shame. We'd totally love to see a Robocop statue atop the Renaissance Center. I mean, how cool would that be?

It should be RoboCop standing with The Old Man, like the Walt/Mickey statue.

Or how about Ted Nugent? He's the Motor City Madman!

Yeah, I'd rather see Ted Nugent holding a musket and wearing a coonskin cap with a dead animal draped over his back than RoboCop, honestly.

It should be a statue of Robocop driving in his police car with Ted Nugent standing on top with a bow and arrow aimed skyward and Axel Foley putting a banana in the car's tailpipe.

What about a statue of Robocop crushing Eminem and the ICP with a Sherman tank? Ted Nuget would be manning the 50 cal, and it would fire real bullets in to the sky, for perpetuity, kind of like an eternal flame.

The most hilarious part of this whole story is the idea that "Detroit may be on the way back from ruin and perdition."

That would take gentrification of a Marshall Plan-like scale.

You know what pisses me off? That the whole world believes that Detroit always "needs to be on the way up" or "is deeply affected by the economic downturn". Fuck! And fuck everybody for thinking that! Detroit is a nice city if you know where to go (and has very shady areas, as well. Just like any other major city). The metro area is where all the white people flew to, and it's quite a terrific place.

Second of all, they totally should erect a Robocop statue, but not in Detroit. The thing is about this is that the film was actually never filmed in Detroit, it was filmed in and around Dallas.

Just a non sequitur, I'm sure.

So I was wrong, and massive gentrification has already taken place?

Hey if Detroit doesn't want the statue of Robocop, I'll take it for my living room.

Robocop statue saved by OCP???

(From Kotaku.com)
Quote:
If you didn't hear, the tweet turned fundraiser for a full-size bronze statue of Robocop may become reality now that $50,000-plus has been raised for the project. That makes me all warm and fuzzy. The best part of this story is that the real-life Omni Consumer Products was responsible for a big part of that donation.

OCP is a company that make real life version of made up movie products. They have some cool stuff:

I just think it's awesome that not only in the movie, but in real like, OCP funded building a Robocop.
