Here's the part of the story that really struck me:

"The child prostitution charge carries a possible prison sentence of six months to three years. The abuse of influence charge, which experts say is more dangerous for Berlusconi, carries a possible sentence of four to 12 years. Berlusconi could be barred permanently from public office if convicted of abusing his influence and sentenced to more than five years on that."

The sentence for paying for sex with a minor in Italy in 6 months to 3 years. WTF? It should be way harsher than that. Fucking Europe, man. Fucking Europe.

Well, I know France repeatedly refused to extradite Roman Polanski for his rape trial. So that's at least two countries that are retarded. And then there's Russia, which is pretty much Thailand West.

Yeah, I find the whole discrepancy between the charges somewhat startling as well. That said, doesn't Italy have an egregious, almost China-esque skew in the male/female department? I think they have to take just about whatever they can pay f... get.

I like how one picture has a lady holding a saucepan wit the guys face on it. I'm going to go there and say a slight stereotypical.

They have legal prostitution, but illegal minors doing the prostituting. It sounds like a sting made in heaven. Yet, the girl was 17, a year younger then the legal age so if anything, they'll just give him a slap on the wrist compared to the parliamentary situation in Italy right now.

Ah, I see now. It's not stat charges, it's underage prostitution charges. I guess that makes sense...kinda.

I looked it up, and the age of consent in Italy is 14. Which is fucked up in it's own right. Also, prostitution is legal in Italy. But, you have to be over 18.

So the fucked up summary is:

"You can have legal and free consensual sex with 14 year olds, but if you pay them for it, your a criminal."

Yeah that's why it's only 6 months. It's a crime only in a technical sense as per Italy's laws.

But, the stupid part was that he only "misused" it because he gave her money. He is not in trouble for the having the sex, he's in trouble for paying for it.

How old was the minor? I haven't read the article. The age of consent in alot of European countries is lower. I am sure in Italy it's about 16. That's about the same age for the consumption of alcohol - for Italy.

It's quite low in other countries too.

I think most Europeans countries fall somewhere between 13 and 15. Even Britain is as low as 16.

They like them young over here.

Now, I am not condoning it, but do realize that even Americans were getting them young not more than 80 years ago. In the late 1800s / early 1900s, it was perfectly normal for 20+ year old men to MARRY 13-14 year old girls!

Actually in England and Wales it's illegal for someone over 18 to have sexual relations with someone aged 16 or 17.

The age of consent in England and Wales is 16, as specified by the Sexual Offences Act 2003 (section 9). However, if a person (A) over the age of 18 in a position of trust over a person (B) under the age of 18, it is illegal for A to engage in sexual activity with B.

Alowishus, what exactly is a "position of trust"? You're basically talking incest or school teachers preying on their students right? Most of the time when it involved two strangers or friends hooking up, I don't think that law applies.

He was joking. The map shows that over half of the US has 16 as age of consent just like England.
