I'm also really Digging the new Companion System.
1) They don't die like in the FO:3, they get knocked out and come back, and you can have one Person and one Robot, and with some other special things you can get 3, 4 or even 5 people in your herd (with the right circumstances)
2) I have a fucking Bionic Dog with a Visible Brain who hates Rats, and doesn't like Hats because it rhymes with Rats who fucking eats anyone who tries to fuck with me.

I'll definitely buy this at one point, most likely the second they patch it. With how much people talk about getting stuck in rooms, or losing game progress/saves, I'd rather just play it safe and get a bug-free version.

If they end up patching is it going to go on new discs, or will it be an online thing? Cause I don't have Xbox live.

Yeah, mine updated to V 1.01 yesterday. Dunno what the patch did, but it updated regardless.
EDIT: Fallout: New Vegas Update 1.01 Update Released!
The Fallout New Vegas Update was just released on the PS3 which fixes over 200 scripting and quests bugs in the game! Enjoy the New Fallout New Vegas update which will hopefully leave you with less problems than the release version of the title!
This update which was released in Europe on Oct. 23rd is said to really improve game performance overall and get rid of most of the glitches, errors, and problems seen by the initial release version of Fallout: New Vegas!

And yes, the merchant with that familiar-sounding voice is Vic Mignogna, the Fullmetal Alchemist.

Bethesda has announced that the former Xbox 360 exclusive DLC "Dead Money" for Fallout: New Vegas is no longer just for 360 owners. PlayStation 3 and PC owners can enjoy this DLC starting February 22, 2011.
Bethesda has also noted that it will be releasing three more DLC add-ons for New Vegas in the coming months. These add-ons will be released simultaneously for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 owners.

I eventually picked this up, and invested most of November-January just polishing off as much of it as possible. I love the weapons and story much more than FO3, but something about the environment doesn't feel as atmospheric and immersive as FO3's.
Dead Money was a bit of a let-down. The story and characters were very, very well done, but the whole poison gas and the radio emitter systems just turned me off.
That said, I'm torn between FO3 and New Vegas. They each have their own pros and cons over each other.

I started a new playthrough last month with a morallly ambiguous character. I'm having much more fun now than the first time.
I think I liked FO3 better. Being from DC, I liked that I could walk around my neighborhood in the game and the historical references were neat. I think there was more character submersion, I felt more connected to the Lone Wanderer than the Courier.
That said, NV is more fun. The weapon system is better, there's more factions and I like being able to walk from one edge of the map to another without have to resort to sewers or tunnels. I hated that part of FO3.

Also, just realized one thing: I hate invisible walls. They were completely unnecessary in the game, and I got tired of having to run around whole mountain ranges just to get to a camp on my map.

A new patch has been released with altered damage for most weapons:
Guns:
- Automatic Guns - SMGs, the Assault Carbine, and the LMG are more accurate across the board. They're also more durable. 12.7mm SMG mag capacity increased to 21.
- Shotguns - Buckshot has received a x1.2 inherent DAM mod. This slightly incentivizes using buckshot over slugs when enemy armor is not an issue. Magnum buckshot has a x1.3 DAM mod and a small amount of DT bypass. Spread for many shotguns has been lowered.
- Hunting Rifle, Anti-Materiel Rifle - Hunting Rifle and AMR now have the lowest spread of all rifles. Hunting Rifle RoF increased, Crit Chance set to x2. Anti-Materiel Rifle's Crit DAM has been raised from 80 to 110 to make it more viable when compared to the Gobi.
- Sniper Rifle, Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle - Sniper Rifle and Gobi now have a higher RoF and lower AP cost. Both have x2 Crit Chance. Gobi has increased DAM and much higher Crit DAM over the Sniper Rifle.
- That Gun - That Gun is now a slow-firing hand cannon that does huge DAM firing 5.56mm out of a short barrel.
- Hunting Revolver – Rate of Fire increased.
- Service Rifle - DAM slightly lowered, firing animation changed to the one used by Marksman Carbine, RoF dramatically increased. Spread decreased.
- Silenced .22 Pistol, SMG - Crit DAM and Crit Chance significantly increased.
- 5mm Ammo - Base ammo has 10 points of DT bypass. AP variants have 25 points of DT bypass. This affects the Assault Carbine, Minigun, and CZ57 Avenger.
- .308 JSP - DAM mult reduced from x1.5 to x1.3. x2 CND degradation effect added.
- Lever-Action Rifles - Cowboy Repeater, Trail Carbine, Brush Gun - RoF has been slightly reduced, AP costs have been significantly increased, and spread has been slightly increased. Cowboy Repeater Custom Action RoF increase has been reduced. La Longue Carabine spread has been significantly lowered.
Explosives:
- Dynamite - Larger explosion radius.
- Frag and Plasma Grenades – DAM increased.
- 25mm Grenades - Slightly increased DAM on the explosion.
- 40mm Grenades - Significantly higher DAM on the explosion.
- Missile Launcher / Fat Man - Now have much better zoom FoV and good accuracy. Missile and Fat Man projectiles (not the explosion) have a large base DAM. Both are extremely effective on direct hits, but still potent even if a direct hit is not scored. N.B.: Listed DAM on weapons assumes a direct hit!
Energy Weapons:
- Gatling Laser - Base DAM is higher. Against heavily armored targets, this is still a poor weapon. Against lightly armored targets, especially with Over Charge or Max Charge ECPs + Focus Optics + Laser Commander, it has extraordinary DPS.
- Tesla Cannon, Tesla-Beaton Prototype - These now consume far less ammo per shot and can be fired several times before a reload. DAM is beefy with an additional 2 second DoT.
- Pew-Pew - Lower ammo capacity, consumes far fewer ECs per shot. Still a two-shot weapon.
Melee and Unarmed:
- Ripper, Chainsaw, Thermic Lance - DAM lowered, all ignore DR/DT.
- Bladed Gauntlet, Mantis Gauntlet - Ignore DR/DT flags removed (were not supposed to be marked as such). Mantis Gauntlet animation/sound fixed.
Perks:
- Splash Damage – Functions properly.
- The Professional - 10mm Pistol, SMG added to perk list.

Crap I'll have to be online for that right? Do I need xbox live or can I just ethernet my 360 up to the router when loading the game to make it check for updates? I have to pay for live don't I? (never had internet before always used other people's, sorry if questions are obvious)

Let me get this straight, people play video games to avoid violence? I thought that was what real life was for? Sure, in real life violence solves little, and indeed creates more problems. But video games? I mean sheesh, if the guy pisses you off, shoot him in the face.

Yeah you can connect to the router via an ethernet cable, you don't have to have Xbox Live Gold(paid), you can update through Silver(unpaid).

My wife beat New Vegas about a month ago after she'd capped (we got the Dead Money DLC so she could hit thirty; she hated the actual DLC and didn't end up playing through it.) She literally raped the shit out of Caesar's Legion by that point. She 1HK'ed Caesar with a lever-action rifle from outside of his tent.

I just beat Honest Hearts...by accident. The main plot is so short and seems anti-climatic and suddenly I'm at the end and headed back to the Mojave. What? I'm really disappointed in this expansion; the plot was short, there is all of one new enemy (that isn't a recolor or a raider variant) and the map is super frustrating to navigate due to most of it being narrow canyons that only connect through caves. There are a few new weapons, perks and recipes but I feel kinda gyped.

I will likely wait for all of the DLC to come out before I get them, just like with Fallout 3. I can get them when they go on sale and I can go through all of them in succession and not feel ripped off.

You might still feel ripped-off. Dead Money is short, has one new enemy and not a lot of new gear too. Plus once you leave the Sierrra Madre when you beat the plot, you can't go back. Honest Hearts at least lets you go back to Zion Canyon, you just won't want to.
Old World Blues and Lonesome Road better be longer and cooler dammit. Also, I'm not sure why Dead Money added the Things to Come challenge for hearing bits about The Divide in dialog when the next expansion had nothing to do with it and doesn't mention it at all.

Also, I'm disappointed in Joshua Graham. In the normal game, you keep hearing hints about how much of a badass he is and how even Caesar is afraid of him and forbade any discussion of him, then the trading company leader you go to Zion with tells you to not even mention him to the people there and if you read what they were going to make him like as an NPC in Van Buren, he sounds like a complete amoral badass. The Joshua Graham actually in Honest Hearts is pretty much a pussy who is slightly bloodthirsty and only accompanies you for one mission. I was expecting Schwarzwald crossed with Mad Martigan and got the Mummy crossed with an armored car guard. If I can talk the guy down from taking his revenge on the leader of the people who have been slaughtering the tribe he aids, he's not that badass.

Yeah, hahaha. I was impressed by how easy it was to shoot up Fortification Hill. I went in with Boone prior to capping and cleaned the place out. The only place that gave me trouble was the tent.
