Yeah your point was crystal. I don't need a lecture on nostalgia, and I make no apologies for what I said, especially considering the amount of inane crap that gets spewed about things that are dear to me.

This just makes you look like a dick. A games sequels are probably better looking and improve on the original? SHOCKING! You could have just said "I didn't enjoy Super R-Type as much as it's sequels" instead of basically insulting people who enjoy the original.

Blazing Star, Pulstar, Twinkle Star Sprites (NEOGEO), Raiden III (PS2), GunBird 2 (Dreamcast), Darius Gaiden (Saturn), Darius Twin, Axelay, Super R Type (SNES) & R-Type III if you like getting pissed and have extra SNES controllers laying around.

Do you guys want to turn him off of shumps? Super R-Type is the hardest in the series and he's looking for starter games.

Try some of Compile's games, such as Gun-Nac (NES) and Super Aleste (SNES, aka Space Megaforce). Both start off easy but get challenging (not hard) by the last stages in the game. They also have great music and a variety of weapons to have fun with.

Also Salamander/Life Force, the original arcade versions or their direct ports.

I forgot about Gun Nac for some reason (My favorite shmup ever). Definitely beginner-friendly and hella fun to boot.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

well again, I'm no expert on these things, but I didn't think Super R-Type was as difficult as some of the games I see these days, where you have to know exactly where to stay at white time to avoid a screen full of bullets.

My three favorite shmups are (and I'm by no means a big shmupper) - Fire Shark (Genesis), Robo Aleste for Sega CD and 1942: Joint Strike.

Fire Shark (Genesis)

Nice, I know very few people who have played it, but I think it's a blast. I used to play it through, then savestate at the New Game+, and keep racking up my score. It was starting to take up a lot of screenspace until I accidentally deleted it.

What's that bizarre cutesy shmup where you are like a flying egg with a cockpit shooting bees and flowers and shit? That didn't seem to hard when I checked it out.

Double post sorry.

1943 on the NES is a great starter game, it's challenging, but not rock hard.

So I was at this guys house yesterday picking up Mark of The Wolves and I noticed he had a classic that I forgot about. G-Darius, played it last night and I love it. Great graphics, solid difficulty curve and a lot of fun. Definitely a must play, and its pretty cheap!

by god, even your rebuttal makes you sound like a sarcastic fuck.

I want you to look back at earlier posts in this thread, starting with yours.

If you really think you're in the right here, maybe you should take some classes on how to properly speak to people so you don't sound like a condescending douche.

I'M speaking to YOU like a cunt?

Is there some sort of mental barrier or something up that prevents you from seeing how much of an asshole you're being for no reason?

Seriously, this should be self evident by the fact that I'm not the only person here that's telling you this.

MOTW is fucking classy. I've been playing it on XBLA. I wish I got this on the dreamcast back when I had the chance. I also wish I was better at it.

Aero Fighters for the snes is pretty easy. It was the first shmup I remember ever getting into. Also, two player co-op mode is pretty fun.
