Big surprise that it's coming from California.
| latimes.com wrote: |
The words "seasoned beef" have become fighting words for a California woman suing Taco Bell for her claim that there's too little "beef" to merit labeling it as such.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel says the class-action suit alleges false advertising claims. It explains:
"It says Taco Bell's ground beef is made of such components as water, isolated oat product, wheat oats, soy lecithin, maltodextrin, anti-dusting agent, autolyzed yeast extract, modified corn starch and sodium phosphate, as well as some beef and seasonings." Taco Bell hasn't responded to the charges, according to media reports. Check out the story here. And here's a video of potential customers' reactions.
So what else is in "seasoned beef," nutritionally speaking? The Soft Taco Supreme Beef carries 240 calories, 11 grams of fat and 11 grams of protein. And a Fresco Crunchy Taco has 150 calories, 7 grams of fat and 7 grams of protein. And no trans-fats in either.
But whether or not it's really "beef" -- we'll let the judge decide. |
Do you really want to know what's in the meat you're eating if you're doing running for the border?

If you can't tell that Taco Bell is poison, you deserve to keep eating it.

Holy frivolous lawsuit, Batman!
You'd have a better time convincing the court to label it not "food".

This actually seems like an important ruling. I don't really care if the lady makes any money but I think food laws are important. Yes we all know taco bell is low quality but if that's the case people will buy it even if it says "beef product". You people joke but these food laws are what prevent restaurants from giving you a hamburger made of cow eyeballs and buying chocolate consisting of water and brown food coloring.

I always figured that Taco Bell meat was suspect. Kind of like that orange meat paste in Jack In The Box tacos.

The most disappointing thing about Taco Bell nowadays is the lack of meat and cheese. Get a soft shelled taco nowadays, they put in the absolute minimum and try to make it look bigger by loading it up with nasty ass lettuce.

I'm just cutting out fast food in general anymore. Soon I'll find out that Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes contain neither cheese nor potatoes. I'm so disillusioned.

Don't forget... when the Franchise Wars end Taco Bell will be the only restaurant left, so you better get used to them.

The new Frito burritos are nowhere near as good as Sonic's chili cheese frito burrito, but they're passable. I'd like to add them to the beefy five layer, like when I was drunk back in college, I went on a 10 minute diatribe about how the beefy five later burrito would be the best burrito they had if it had a crunch to it.
Thus, my drunken epiphany was listened to.

I never eat meat from Taco Bell, so I guess I'm safe. I'll stick with my Custom Bean Burritos and Tostadas.

From a chef friend's responces:
| wrote: |
Whatever the courts decide; the case is a fallacy - legally there only needs to be a very small percent to label it beef. Plus the fact that it is in fact, fuckilng beef (not to be confused with celibate beef.) What I see most that bothers me is "taco bell uses grade d meat!" - that would be great.. if there was such a thing as grade D.. or C. or B..
*clarification* there is; but someone like Taco bell isnt paying for the "meat grading" - meat that is graded is usually dry aged (VERY expensive) and you can have Prime Grade C - for certain cuts. |
