With Steve Carell stepping out of NBC’s The Office, producers have enlisted Will Ferrell to help boost the show’s numbers during the season’s home stretch.
Ferrell will reunite with his Anchorman co-star in a four-episode arc later this season. He’ll play a branch manager who arrives from the home office and proves to be just as inept as Michael Scott. “We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star,” says executive producer Paul Lieberstein. “We are proud to continue The Office‘s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see: tremendous raw sexuality.”
Three episodes will feature Carell and Ferrell together (they’re not co-workers, they’re co-people), then Ferrell will have one episode working with the Office gang solo after Carell departs (he’s leaving the show four episodes before the season finale, you’ll recall). |
I like Will Ferrell, But I can't see him taking the Roll that Steve Carell plays. I guess time will tell.

Now I have even more of a reason to avoid NBC.

I like Will Ferrell and I like The Office. It'll be fun to see how it turns out.

Reminds me of when they had Jon Lovitz come in to replace Phil Hartman's role on NewsRadio (but without the former guy dying).

I really enjoy the Office, so I hope they can just be decent and let it end. You can't have Briscoe County Jr. without Bruce Campbell and you can't have the US Office without Steve Carrell as far as I'm concerned.

I'm confused. So the season will have three episodes without Carrell OR Will Ferrell? Also, I like Will Ferrell, but I'm not sure if he's right for The Office.

That's a little awkward, introducing a new major character this close to the end of the series. They should have just had the remaining cast fill the gap somehow for the few episodes.

The series isn't ending though. The current plan is to keep it going even after Carell leaves the show with a new boss. They just don't know who that new boss will be yet.
I like the show but I don't think it survives him leaving. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm with you Klimb, maybe Ferrel will work out and they'll keep him around.
Wishful thinking.

What? That's stupid. That's like if they kept Scrubs going after major cast members left.
Oh right...

Ok, maybe not that bad.

I wish they would've left 8 Simple Rules alone and just CGIed Ritter's ghost in there and provided dialogue from Three's Company.

Well, here's what happened. During the writer's strike, NBC's contract to air Scrubs was up, and ABC picked up the rights to what was originally to be the final season. Season 8 of Scrubs aired on ABC as a midseason replacement in 2009 and it was an instant hit. So, of course, ABC wanted another season.
Series creator Bill Lawrence wrote the final season of Scrubs as a spinoff series, but the network wouldn't let him rename it. He kept it going so that the crew would have jobs for another year.

On one of the extra features on some season of 'The Office' DVDs, the producers said they didn't want to introduce any famous guest stars. They were initially thinking of introducing Michael Scott's mother to be Carol Burnett.
Next thing you know, Kathy Bates is on there and now Will Ferrell. Lame.

Or how about That 70's show having a whole season after Eric is gone?
I love the office, but I don't want to watch it slowly die without Michael Scott. I will just avoid watching unless I hear that it is still just as good without him.

Well, I was planning on bringing up That 70's Show but it's been touched already, I think it's safe to say Season 8 jsut didnt even compare to the first seven.
