World of Goo? What? One moderately successful game makes you a "big VG property" now?
And yeah like it or not, Farmville is bigger than WoW at this point. Hell, it's bigger than God.

But how can it be "big" with one game and no sales?

"Big properties" would be ones that make money, and publishers would trip all over each other to acquire. Some of these, don't really fit that bill.

Max Payne??
I personally really enjoy the games but hardly material fit for this type of list.
50 is too big of a number, they should have just done like 10.

Where's The Sims? |
Good question.
"The Sims" debuted in Feb 2000, so they should make the list... Unless....
You consider the fact that they are a part of the "Sim" series which was begun by SimCity, which was released in 1989.

I think their criteria was "influential" as opposed to "successful". That still doesn't excuse the absense of The Sims and inclusion of World of Goo.
This list just seems like one dude listing his favorite games of the past decade as opposed to anything thought out or cohesive.

If Sims doesn't count, then Knights of the Old Republic shouldn't count because there have been Star Wars games since the Atari 2600.
Or, if we're going to include KOTOR, we should be able to include any fucking subfranchise we want: Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy, etc.
How about Prince of Persia? Prince of Persia saw TWO reboots in the last decade, neither one of them even vaguely resembling the original game. If Star Wars can count as "new", surely Prince of Persia can too.
Also, what about Lego Movies? Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman... Those games just keep coming out, and people love them.

Yeah, the Lego games should definitely be up there - they were all both influential to gaming and successful

After looking at this and the top 50 WWE superstars list, I've come to the conclusion that top 50 lists are created just to piss people off, not for accuracy.

Syd should do a "50 greatest games of all time" list, and make sure Superman 64 and Big Rigs are hiding in there, just to get the flames going.
