Removing "Add to DVD Queue" from Streaming Devices
Hi there, it’s Jamie Odell, director of product management at Netflix, with an update for members who add DVDs to their Queue from the device they use to watch instantly. We’re removing the “Add to DVD Queue” option from streaming devices. We’re doing this so we can concentrate on offering you the titles that are available to watch instantly. Further, providing the option to add a DVD to your Queue from a streaming device complicates the instant watching experience and ties up resources that are better used to improve the overall streaming functionality. This change does not impact the Netflix Web site, where most members manage their DVD Queues. |

Big deal. Go on the internet and do it instead. I don't see why people are crying, it's still more convenient than going to the movie store, and if you have a streaming device but no PC/laptop, please die.

Agreed, and it doesn't affect me since I don't have a streaming device, but I'm still puzzled by the decision. How on earth is it to their advantage to remove something so small, yet so convenient for the people who use it?

They want to get out of the DVD business and just do streaming.

I don't CARE, but one argument is that the Wii doesn't utilize my 5.1 surround sound...I guess if the movie is good enough, I'll buy it.

Because there are a lot of stupid people out there who have gotten so addicted to their phones/iPads that they can't fathom not being able to add DVD titles to their queue while in a public restroom or driving on the highway. This instant gratification/all-access-all-the-time society we're creating is getting kind of scary.
It's time to put the iPad down when you can't stand the thought of having to remember that DVD title for 10 minutes or having to write it down so you don't forget when you get home. You know, the shit you did 5 years ago.

What's total bullshit is that Netflix says they can't add subtitles/closed captioning to the streaming titles. It's just too darn hard, they say! Unpossible!
What fucking bullshit. The damn captions are already encoded into the fucking data on line 21, they are just assholes. Or they were too stupid to not bother to save that data when they did whatever it is they do to encode a title for instant streaming.
Look, I have a 9 month old son. He's fucking LOUD. It's a nightmare trying to hear shit on a movie, closed captions make it easy as pie to keep up with what you're watching while he's on a table shouting "ANARCHY!" But more important than that, what about deaf people? They can't watch shit on instant, except for a few titles that they tossed to us like so many cheap rawhides.
So in summation, the people running Netflix are dicks, and for the amount they make every month, they ought to at least help out the deaf and parents.

Oh, and their browse functions sucks ass, whether on a device or their website. It's a nightmare, and I know for a fact that there are multiple titles just lost in the ether because their "categories" don't list everything they have in that category. And "view all?" Forget about it, it doesn't view all. The only way you'll find those movies is if you're specifically searching for them.

I keep hearing that but I can't find any support for it. Their streaming selection is dwarfed greatly by their dvd selection I can't see how they can drop dvds.

Seriously. If smelly otakus can subtitle Naruto and other anime in their spare time, surely Netflix can subtitle stuff that's already got subtitles.

I recently got Netflix, and while both services are great (somewhat; still not entirely happy with having to wait for DVDs to arrive via mail, but that's besides the point...), I think I'll stay with the streaming service.
Because frankly, I can always use Redbox, walk by to a local Comic Book store or even Blockbuster (booth or store) to rent a movie I want to see now. Last time I checked, Netflix doesn't have a monopoly on movie renting.
But yes, those complaining are most likely those scared of change as usual.

I have no issue with it if they promise to increase even further the number of movies they stream.

DVDs are becoming obsolete with both the ease of downloading/streaming movies and Blu-Ray discs. I see this as a step in the right direction. |
A step towards you never owning any content you pay for is more like it.

I prefer to hoard my movie collection in tall unstable stacks of dvd cases scattered across my abode, digital distribution doesn't satisfy that need.
