Hey guys, I have another issue with my Xbox. Any help would be appreciated.
My Xbox loads up the dashboard, but it doesn't recognize games inside of it. It just doesn't read the disk at all. When it tries to read the disk, you can hear two soft clicks.
More info: The Xbox is a first generation 360, there seems to be a fair deal of dust in the console (but I doubt that's the source of the clicking) it has already been sent in for a RRoD, and it is 4 or 5 years old. Any help would be very helpful.

My original PS1 used to click because the lens was out of its track. It always threw an unreadable disc error or something though. Basically the only way to fix it was to have it repaired/buy a new one.

Good luck with that, I had a drive die on me and the bastards wanted 100$ to fix it.

I just grabbed a new one when gamestop was selling them at a discount to make room for the new black wi fi ones. Haven't had a problem with it yet, but I don't run this one 100% of the time with movies whenever I'm not gaming on it, so the drive shouldn't die as fast this time around.

Ok, it seems like the damn thing decided to start working again. I do think it's dust now. Hell, even the freaking clicking went away, so now I have no clue what's really wrong, but again, I'm gonna guess dust.

For a while banging on mine seemed to get it to read the disc, and when that failed turning it upside down and then banging on it worked. After that nothing worked.

You should probably not do that.

In case you were thinking about replacing it yourself, getting a drive whose serial number doesn't match with the console bans you from Live, whether it's legit or not.

If you pay the $100, you'll get a warranty on it when you get it back, plus the month of Xbox Live Gold. It's worth it. It'll cover it for three years and i think you get a refurbished xbox.

All you have to do is switch the circuit board on the original drive with the one on the new drive and you will not get banned. I have done it several times.

Well honestly, this isn't the first time my Xbox has done this. It is still working and if anything, it seems to be working better now after I forced my brothers to leave it alone for a while. Maybe I just knocked some dust loose, because after I forced the tray to go in and out a couple of times, it started working again, only for me to be greeted by the fact that Xbox Live was down for service or something of the like.

Anywho, I still need some way to clear the dust out of my console. I already cleaned up the outside with an isopropanal solution a few weeks ago, which solved all of my overheating issues (funny how dust in the power cord node or whatever it's called can cause that) but I need a good, non illegal way to clean up the inside. Any suggestions?

See, I thought about that, I looked it up, and it seems like it can really damage your console if you try that.
