Sorry if this has been started before.

In the immortal words of weird al:
"The only question I
ever thought was hard
was: Do I like Kirk?
Or Do I Like Picard?

Which do you prefer? Myself, while I believe Spock was the greatest character in any of the Star Treks, TNG is the best. It had the best writing, the most interesting characters (apart from spock), and it didn't have shatner.

I've only seen a few of the original series, and can't remember much about TNG since I watched it as a small kid.

Honestly, probably TNG...everything about the cast made sense to me. I believed their characters more than the original cast.

Let me change it up a bit. Who would be your perfect crew, using characters from all the series?

Here's mine:

Captain: Picard. (He had his shit together. Could get things done without using his dick or his fists first, except when he really needed to.)

1st Officer: Spock (I think Spock was the one person other than Data who could run the entire ship by himself.)

OPS/CONN: Data (He would not only be the most useful character, he would play off of Spock well. I loved their ever-so-brief interaction in the TNG episode "Unification".

HELM: Tom Paris. (The best pilot hand down.)

Tactical: Worf (Fun interactions between Data, Spock, and Worf. And, Worf was pretty bad-ass when in a fight.)

Engineer: Scotty. (The man could fix anything, and didn't need to be sober to do it.)

Doctor: The Doctor [EMH1] (Always available 24/7, and proved to be most capible.)

Other crew: Troi. (Ship's Counselor), 7 of 9 (Eye Candy and research), Miles O'Brien (Transporter Chief and 2nd Lead Engineer)

Ship: Akira Class. (My favorite out of any Star Trek ship.) See here: http://z10.invisionfree.com/USS_Masamune/index.php?showforum=1

ugg, Troi. Why the hell does the ship counselor get to sit next to the captain on the bridge? Oh yeah, she can read feelings. What are the Ferengi thinking troi?

Pain. Horror. *starts to weep* Sadness, intense Sadness

I hate troi

Picard, for my money, is the greatest character--and has the best character arc--of any Star Trek character. I like TOS because its a classic, but TNG will always, ALWAYS be *the* Star Trek for me. Had the best theme song, too.

TNG--with the exception of Troi--had the best characters of all time. Geordi, Data, Worf, Picard. Q, the Borg, the Cardasians...just incredible what that series did for sci-fi. The only character I truly love from TOS is Dr. McCoy. I never got people's attachment to Spock. I like him okay, but he's nowhere near my favorite character.

Yeah I'm a TNG guy through and through. I've tried to like TOS, but it's just too campy and silly for me and most of the episodes are very boring.

I like your crew Knyte, but I'd probably drop 7 of 9 because while hot, I found her pretty annoying and kind of a liability. I'd also take the Enterprise-E or any Sovereign class starship really.

Isn't Worf usually too busy getting his ass kicked by just about everyone to be useful?

But yeah, I'm with the majority on this one. TNG just had a much better story to it, I felt that many of the characters were just more likeable, and the Borg made a better bad guy than the Klingons and the Romulans combined.

Agreed. I'd take the D though, and swap Doctors for McCoy. Other than that, pretty damn good.

Hahahaha, that's awesome; seven minutes of Worf getting his ass beat by like every single character in the series plus some inanimate objects.
