I thought it was you died by drowning because it made you drink so much.
Alcohol is probably that high up (like most people have said) because it is readily available.
It's all to do with self control and moderation and some people just can't control themselves. I don't know the extent of this in America since your legal drinking age is so high but over here there's "glamourisation" of drinking.
The whole "i'm so cool cause i'm drunk" and the "omg guys i got so drunk last night". Which being a student is pretty much all you ever hear about.
However i don't have a problem with legalised drugs. Everyone harps on about all the people getting checked into hospital with overdoses and shit. The number of people who take drugs i couldn't see dramatically increasing. People would try it out if it was legal but i doubt many would go on drug binges.
Probably about the same amount who go on alcohol ones. If it was heavily taxed i don't see the problem, or at least taxed the same amount as alcohol.
Look at the Netherlands. How often do you hear about problems there? Never.
