More than 100 accused mobsters were arrested Thursday morning by federal agents and police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.
The arrests were made around the New York area on charges including racketeering, conspiracy, extortion and murder, a person familiar with the situation said.
The takedown involved accused members and associates of all five New York organized-crime families: the Gambinos, Genoveses, Bonnanos, Luccheses and Colombos, this person said.
Also arrested were members of the DeCavalcantes in Newark, N.J., and accused New England mobsters in Providence, R.I.
U.S Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to hold a news conference on the arrests Thursday with federal prosecutors from New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island, FBI officials and New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

Does this remind anyone else of a recent hit movie?

I read racketeering wrong and wondered when the Mob got jetpacks. Hopefully they throw some minor felons who got nabbed for possession or something out to make room for the scumbags.

...what movie does it remind you of?
Only things I can think of are The Town and The Departed, and it's not a thing like either.

No, it doesn't remind me of the Dark Knight at all actually. Goodfellas, yes.
Also if I were going to join the mob, I'd choose the Genoveses because that's such a cool and slick family name. You have to be pretty embarrassed to work for the Bananas.

If I were going to pick a specific organized crime movie, I would pick American Gangster.
However, I was thinking about in The Dark Knight when they round up all of the criminals at once instead of making individual cases one at a time.

Ah. I see.
Wasn't that significant because they tried all of them at the same time?
That's not whats happening here, or am I wrong?

I don't think it is a RICO case yet, but I have read that there are now 127 of them in custody. I imagine that this could very easily turn into a RICO case if they find that some of those cases are individually weak.
