As the reality of 2011 starts to sink in, we’re more surrounded by gadgetry than ever. Phones, cameras, video games, computers, music players and sound recorders exist all around us and they’re often combined in an orgy of technological capability undreamed-of just 30 years ago.
So we here at FinestDaily thought it would be about time to take a look at the early pioneers of tech – they may have been bulky, ugly and unwieldy to use, but they’ve made all our favorite gadgets and toys possible. So here they are: 10 pieces of technology and how they looked like back in the day! |

That laptop looks vaguely like the ones my school used to loan out to people who had no access to computers to do papers on. They probably had a later model of it but man did those things suck ass. You couldn't read them very well and they liked to "accidentally" erase all your work at random. Still it was better than using that awful red stick mouse thing actual laptops had at the time.

You can still get them on ThinkPad laptops. Heck, they've even made keyboards with them for desktops.

Yes those things. I hated them, not as much as I hate the current touchpads that have all sorts of useless shit wedged into their corners that pull up applications/scroll whenever you accidentally tap them though. I never found a single built-in laptop mouse that worked as well as even a cheap ball mouse. The sticks always had me hitting the keys around them and the touchpads are just flat out infuriating to use. I think my fingers are just too big and they make both types tiny, forcing me to carry my mouse if I plan on using my laptop for more than a quick web browse.
