It probably belongs in Video Games, but I'm going to go back and do a review of Pong. Why? Because I'm a pretentious douche who thinks that nobody else in the world has played it, even though it's been around for decades. That's what I think of when I see people doing things like reviewing old movies or games that've already been reviewed to crap and back.

A couple things.

This has been posted in the "great review of phantom menace" thread. It also serves as a catch-all for the red letter media reviews as a whole, including the star trek ones.

Also this movie came five years ago, not exactly old. Certainly not decades.

So if someone decided to review Constantine or Capote or any other film from 2005 now, wouldn't that still make it at least somewhat superfluous?

If they made points that hadn't been touched on, or were at the very least valid and entertaining, then I don't see the problem.

Did you watch the video, or are you just generally ranting on internet video critics?

I've watched the video, Optimist, but I'm using it as a larger ranting platform against a trend. Start locally and expand globally has always worked for me.

I agree with that yes that there are many reviewers who just regurgitate the same points. However, much like there can be a battlestar gallactica, star trek, and homeboys in outer space, there can be reviews/critics talking about the same thing if they go somewhere different with it.

aeonic, you must hate virtually every article on this site. Syd reviews shit that's been out for decades.

As Optimist points out, if there's a unique take on it I don't see the problem.

And I'm totally cool with people not seeing the problem about it. If it works for you, go with it. Solve et coagula and all that good stuff, right? Hell, I can even agree with it, to some extent. Syd's stuff, by and large, is really funny to me, and I wouldn't even say he necessarily 'reviews' stuff so much as lampoons it, but I'd prefer not to get into a semantics argument on the matter. Personally, I've encountered many, many sites, including that one, that just rubbed me the wrong way in terms of their reviews, especially on older media. I guess it's a 'to each his/her own' thing, I don't know.

RedLetterMedia is a entertaining and informed reviewer. He doesn't just slap shit together.

Roger Ebert even gave him a shoutout recently.

Apologies but I was trying to show Aeonic's viewpoint was wrong about this particular reviewer.
