"Tifa has been confirmed as the final playable character from FFVII. The game will be out in Japan next spring, and the Japanese version includes some cross-promotional costumes from other Square Enix games: Lightning has an Aya Breya costume and Cloud can turn into his Kingdom Hearts form. " |
Minor alteration, the cross-promotional material is unlocked with product codes from their respective games (The 3rd Birthday and KH: Birth by Sleep).

Riku. Riku with a thousand different costumes, each one giving her different abilities. That's all.

It's now been revealed that Dissidia 012 (duodecim, the US title for the game) will offer a story mode for the Chaos-aligned characters as well as character assists.

http://www.square-enix.co.jp/dissidia_012/ Trailer here.
It seems that Kain's EX mode will reflect his changes from The After Years. And the trailer shows that all the previous character should still be present.

From rpgamer
Although the developers categorize Dissidia Duodecim as a sequel to the original Dissidia, the game is set before the events of its predecessor. Dissidia depicts the thirteenth battle between Cosmos and Chaos, while Duodecim depicts the twelth. Nomura also made it clear that Duodecim will be more than just Dissidia with more characters. They aim to make battles more lively and dynamic by introducing new battle elements and gameplay features. One such feature is an "assist" system in which a support character can be called in to help in a battle.
As for the new characters, there will be more than the currently-known Lightning, Kain, and Tifa. Nomura stated that rather than selecting Cosmos and Chaos pairings from each Final Fantasy game, the developers looked at the series as a whole. Thus, while Cecil and Kain from Final Fantasy IV are both Cosmos characters, that doesn't mean there will be two Chaos characters from that game. Each character will have three costumes in Duodecim. The new, third type of costume is being referred to as "3P," which is meant to have "impact" in its look. Some characters may look wildly different from normal in their 3P costume.

A recent issue of the Japanese Shonen Jump magazine has revealed that Yuna from Final Fantasy X and X-2 will be joining the cast of Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy. It may be surprising for some, but Yuna will appear in the game as she was in Final Fantasy X, rather than as she did in the sequel. As such, she will function in the game as a summoner rather than as a gunner with a class change system.
According to Shonen Jump, Yuna will fight by summoning out Aeons to attack for her. She can summon out two Aeons at once who can attack as a team. One known example is attacking with both Ixion and Shiva at the same time. Her EX Burst attack involves summoning all of her Aeons to attack in succession.
In addition to announcing Yuna, the magazine also revealed information about a promotion Square Enix is running for the initial run of the game. Every copy of Dissidia Duodecim's initial Japanese print run will include a code for downloading a new costume for Tifa to use in the game, which will be a modified version of her Final Fantasy VII costume with a red skirt. It is still unknown whether this promotional code will be included in the North American release of the game.
Sooo...is anyone still reading/following this or should I stop with the updates?

Probably her 2nd player costume or a purchasable one like Squall's SEED dress uniform.

I've only played maybe 5 minutes of PvP in the game, but it's been stated there will be a story mode for the Chaos faction as well.

Square Enix's Final Fantasy crossover game finally has a North American release date. Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy will be released March 22. It will cost $29.99, and will be rated T by the ESRB.
Square Enix has also released a little information about the actors who will be lending their voices to the North American version of the game, though it hasn't revealed anything too interesting on this front. The voice actors from the original Dissidia: Final Fantasy will reprise their roles in this game. Rachel Leigh Cook, who voiced Tifa in the past, will continue to voice the character in Dissidia Duodecim. Ali Hillis will also continue her role as the voice of Lightning. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on who will provide the voices for various characters who have never had spoken lines in a previous game.

Apparently I never posted/saw this trailer for the game before, which confirms Kain's upgrade from The After Years:

Square Enix wants its fans to buy Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy, so it is including promotional codes for exclusive downloadable costumes with preorders from GameStop or Amazon. People who preorder Dissidia Duodecim from GameStop will get access to Cloud's Kingdom Hearts costume. Preorders from Amazon will include a code for a Tifa costume based on Yoshitaka Amano's art. These bonuses are available for both preexisting preorders and all future preorders from these two retailers.
Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy will be released in North America on March 22. It will be rated T and be priced at $29.99.

There are several new details about the game today. Desperado Chaos is the uncomfirmed new character in Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy, leaked from this week's Shonen Jump. There is also a new feature called "Data Import." You can carry over your data from the original Dissidia and the Universal Tuning international version. This gives two options, "Stronger New Game" or "Level Reset."
A new game feature called Labyrinth Mode was just announced. It is similar to the Colosseum Mode. With certain cards, (Door, Job, Treasure, and Party Member) you work your way through a dungeon fighting monsters and gathering items. There are several exits in the Labyrinth, but you'll find rarer items and tougher monsters as you go further in. There is also no saving in the Labyrinth, so if you die, you lose all your items.

Square-Enix has announced that Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy, the demo for the upcoming Dissidia Duodecim, will be coming to the North American PlayStation Network on March 15. This demo tells a prologue story to Dissidia Duodecim featuring Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII. People who play this demo will get to carry over certain items into the main game, and will unlock Aerith from Final Fantasy VII as an assist character. Unfortunately, this demo is not free, and will cost $2.99 to download.
