Quote:
For 10 weeks, Mark Haub, a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, ate one of these sugary cakelets every three hours, instead of meals. To add variety in his steady stream of Hostess and Little Debbie snacks, Haub munched on Doritos chips, sugary cereals and Oreos, too.
His premise: That in weight loss, pure calorie counting is what matters most -- not the nutritional value of the food.

Dude lost 27lb and is healthier than he was... what the fuck?

Good luck replicating this among people whom that food is standard fare, especially considering how incomplete the reporting seems in the article. For one thing, how much working out did he do? That diet's okay if you're going to the gym three or four times a week, but what if you're a fat, sedentary little kid? Or an obese adult? It raises some interesting questions, but I want more answers before I even ask them.

Isn't mainly, with dieting and what a person's diet is, it's all about how much of it your eating and what you do afterwards?

Lower weight doesn't mean healthier. You can go a while without essential vitamins and nutrients, but eventually your body will break down from a diet of just simple sugars and processed foods.

You could starve yourself and lose weight...doesn't mean you're healthier.

This guy's basic premise is correct. If you burn more calories than you take in, you will lose weight. But if you're eating the wrong foods all the time, then you system will be unhealthy. Trim, but unhealthy.

Who cares about health as long as you look good?

I'm the same way Andrew.

The problem I have though is I'm not as toned as I should be. Yeah, I could get away with eating sugary stuff all the time, but then I seem to lose muscle and tire out after short bursts of energy.

Also, I try to eat sweets in moderation, but has anyone had these things?

Me too, I've never been over 200 lbs and I live on a diet of frozen food and potato chips. I think it is because I only eat one meal a day so there really isn't much required to work it off, so walking all over campus for classes basically covers the requisite exercise.

Eating one meal actually caused me to gain weight. It was during a time when I was least active, but it's as if my body knew it was the only nutrition I was going to get that day so it held onto every bit of it.

Yea, I am in the same boat as both of you guys.

When I try though, I can add a little definition and tone without too much effort, I just don't really care enough.

I should really eat better though, lol.

I just always worry when I get the occasional chest pain, and think back to my childhood years of downing a fuckload of Long John Silver's all the time.

Haha me too except it wasn't Long John Silver's for me, it was McDonalds french fries. I used to go there and just buy 4 large fries because I loved the soggy, greasy, salt covered things. Now McDonalds actually tends to have crisp fries with no salt on them so I can no longer eat there, but that is ok because Subway has Buffalo Chicken subs that I can load with jalapeños.

McDonalds always had the best fries of all the places, even if they lacked in the burger department. The McGriddles are probably my favorite breakfast item at any place now, despite the fact I need a defibrillator after I eat it.

But damn...Long John Silver's? I used to use an entire bottle of malt vinegar on my meal. Sooooooo good.

This. Also, everyone already knew this so this guy is just kind of proving the obvious. Less calories = less weight gain and if you burn more calories than you intake, your body starts feeding on stored fat thus, you lose weight.

Too bad his arteries will be fucked and he'll generally feel like shit living off sugary snacks.

Are those Buffalo Subs from Subway any good, Bum? I almost got it like 100 times but always changed my mind at the last second.

They are pretty good, but only with Jalapeños, Banana Peppers, Ranch, Pepperjack Cheese, and Chipolte Southwest Sauce on them. Occasionally though the workers there will fuck up the mixture on the sauce and you will get a really spicy sauce and then they are really fucking good. I just really like super spicy stuff lol. I have to mix several hot sauces together when I make wings because the wing sauces are always weak and need some habenero and whatever the hell is in this "Insanity" sauce I have.

That might be true, but I've only eaten there 4 times in my life and all 4 times the sandwiches weren't that good. Maybe it's just me, but their roast beef is very dry.
