My wife did, but she's too busy watching Netflix or playing Fallout 3 or Mass Effect 2 to play

If you're going to MAGFest, there's an actual six-player cabinet there. Every gamer should get the chance to play it at least once. There's really nothing like physically fighting with five other people for the boss point.

There's an old six player cabinet of this at the local flea market, it's one of the few machines in the arcade that still works, besides a really old LOUD tetris cabinet and the Simpsons 4 player cabinet.

meh. I'm 26. I grew up with that machine. It is indeed fantastic, especially for it's time.

it's got both the US and JAP roms, 4 or 6 player cabinets, multiple difficulties, an actual character select, drop in/drop out online multiplayer. It's actually worth the 800 points, methinks.
plus, there was no bastardized SNES version ever released, so there's nothing for people to bitch about like they did with turtles in time reshelled.

I honestly felt like the SNES version of Turtles in Time played better, though it was more restricted in certain aspects it had an overall better feel to it IMO. Yea, the re-shelled version is awful.

You're fucking nuts. Reshelled was awesome. Literally everything about it graphically, musically, and gameplay wise was improved upon from the original arcade version. I'm sorry that it didn't include the extra snes levels and bosses, even though they were more frustrating than entertaining to begin with.

The Reshelled graphics were nothing special, and are my biggest complaint with the game. Gameplay was definitely a lot tighter.

I didn't, so I'm just not used to its double-wide frame. It's good fun once in a great while. Shame no one can make arcade games with more than four players anymore.

when I was a kid it was an amazing sight. the cabinet was SO HUGE! I remember having to stand on a milk crate to be able to play.

It's too easy. In fact it's WAY too easy - with unlimited continues, you can beat the game in less than 20 minutes. Just keep dying.

It's a shame that there are not really arcades around anymore.

people used to bitch about this when strider 2 came out too. you can always limit yourself. say "I'm only gonna use three continues on this playthrough" or something.
besides, isn't clearing all of these old games on a single credit the popular thing nowadays, thanks to mame and youtube?

I'm sure XBLA has an achievement for a 1cc, too. I mean, that's the big thing with shmups. Yeah, anyone can beat a shmup. Die over and over and spam bombs, what fun. But beat one on a single credit? Now that's fucking cool.

It doesn't, I already got 100% of the trophies, none were particularly too difficult.

Yet you haven't touched yours in a month.
(The other day I was going through my friends list on XBLive, and it said you have been offline for 22 days!)

First off, I thought trophies and achievements were identical, I did not think there were any exclusives to any console for the most part.
Second, IMO trophies sound more appealing as a reward for completing a task. They seem more tangible than "achievements".

I take it that the Japanese version would be the easy version, since it uses mutant points first and then health. The US version is the revere and starts spending mutant points once you're in the red.

The japanese version just makes more sense. There are health and mutant power orb powerups that you can pick up, the mutant powers use orbs before health (prompting you to want to save orbs for when you need them, instead of spamming your mutant power until you die like in the US one), and instead of getting one orb every time you beat a level, you get one every time another player joins in or continues.
Enemy placement and behavior might be slightly different, but I haven't noticed anything that I can prove. They seem to actually be about the same difficulty though, so something's gotta be different.
