Alright, so I have this really annoying problem that I think has to do with my browser. I have internet connection but after going to about 10 pages, I'll get a screen that says that internet explorer couldn't load the page. It also says the reasons for this could be that I'm not connected to the internet or the webpage is experiencing problems, neither of which are true. It looks like I don't have internet connection but I still do. All my messenger programs still work, I just can't browse the internet anymore. The only way I can fix it is to restart my computer but then after a few minutes of browsing the internet, it'll do it again and I have to restart. I tried to google the problem but I'm not sure what to google and I haven't found a discription of my problem in any help section. It doesn't switch to work offline mode. Anyone have any ideas?

Check your proxy settings in Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings in Control Panel. They should not have anything set. If not that, open C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS in a text editor and post what you find.

1.So, when the browser stops working, just closing it and reopening it doesn't work? You have to reboot the whole computer?

2. Post Specs. (If you are not sure, then press Windows Key (The one in-between CTRL & ALT) + PAUSE key. (At the same time) Then copy what it says here. (At least what's under the "System" & "Computer" headings. We don't need "Registered To" info.)

Hitting the Windows Key and the Pause Key didn't bring up anything, is there another way to access the specs?

System in Control Panel does the same thing. Windows + Pause/Break is just a shortcut for it.

Now let's see that HOSTS file. You'll probably have to open an elevated Notepad (right click, Run as administrator) to get to it.

Alright, everything under System in Control Panel brings up the System properties but there is no System or Computer heading. There's Computer Name, Hardware, Advanced, System Protection, and Remote. I don't think I'm in the right place. Where do I find the HOSTS file? Thanks for your patience guys.

The file doesn't have a file extension, so set the open dialog to search for all files.

The OS looks like 7, but you need to confirm it.

What version of IE are you running?

Have you tried other browsers yet?

I agree with these quesiton. Because, if you are dropping your network conection completely, then you may need to re-install your network drivers. however, if it only related to the web browser. (ie other programs can still access the net.) then it may just be a software problem with that particular browser.

If you are running Win 7, I (and many others) highly recommend "Microsoft Security Essentials". It's free, it doesn't take over your whole PC (like norton), and it actually works.

ok, so i got this laptop about 1-2 weeks ago and been using Chrome as my browser.

out of the blue, as of yesterday, whenever i try to open up chrome, i get the security message from the user account control deal. "do you want the following program to make changes to your computer?"

it never did this before. i havent downloaded anything, save microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes. i havent downloaded any torrents. i havent looked up porn. the only extension i downloaded was ad blocker for chrome. and the flash players needed to view some websites. and the patches for WCIII. and trillian.

anyone ever have that happen to them? i havent made changes to the user account settings.
