I don't think it sucks that bad, I just really like Craig Kilborn more than Jon Stewart. He was actually ya know, funny. He didn't rely on awkward camera glances and self deprecation to carry him through a segment.

I can't believe you people like Craig Kilborn. He is a smug prick. He has the most punchable face in television. The daily show might not always be great but I will take it over kilborn a trillion times over.

Seconded. Kilborn always reminded me of a fratboy destined to drop out during his junior year to take a job at his dad's car dealership and who'd slip a chick roofies.

Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

Well, he is being relieved of command by the Navy.

That's a pretty harsh thing. Censure, a formal reprimand, I can understand that. Even something like dropping him a pay grade/busting him down in rank or whatever, that'd be reasonable, but that seems a bit much.

Believe me, Officers don't get busted down unless its something outrageous. He's lost command of his ship, he'll get a letter of repermand, meaning he'll never be promoted again, and he'll push papers around for the rest of his career.

That's my experience too. If an officer does something bad enough to warrant the taking of rank, he's usually just gone, period. This absolutely didn't warrant that.

I feel mixed on the final outcome. Part of me still feels his lack of judgment and foresight alone should prevent him from leading a ship into a war zone...but then there's reality, and as Atma pointed out, he was simply trying to keep up morale, as ill-advised as his tactics were. Sad to lose a decent officer on such a stupid thing, regardless, especially considering how long ago it happened. I don't really see that the Navy had much choice though...once the cat was out of the bag, they had to do something.

Yep. Like you said, he had good intentions, but sure as hell didn't go about it the right way.

The investigation is still under way.

I wonder if the CO at the time will get smacked too? I would assume he would, but we'll see.

I definitely can't speak from the point of view of a serviceman (Not for lack of trying to enlist, but my body's a walking time-bomb), but I do think it's unacceptable for a few reasons:

1)The video isn't as shocking as it is just crude and stupid. It brings down everyone in the video, and everyone on the ship, and the officer should have realized this.

2)From what I've seen, the video is mostly awful-bad gay jokes, and with don't ask don't tell gone, we have a whole new group of people willing to take on the courageous responsibility of serving in the country's military, and these people should not feel unwelcomed by their comrades for the sake of a really goddamned unfunny video.

3)It's the US forces. Have a degree of self-respect and realize there are eyes on you. Tell some crude jokes to each other when you're talking, it's up to commanding officers on the social atmosphere, and the officer in charge should know that this video reflects upon them.

I understand blowing off steam, and telling a few jokes. I can't imagine how active duty takes a toll on nerves, but the image of our forces is as important as any business (and moreso), so a commanding officer should have shown much more professionalism than what he did.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.
