Hmm. I prefer tic tac toe. Chess is too rooky-pawny for my taste.

I was just going off of video games that use the turn based battles on the square grid battlefields. Just like in all the games I listed.

I dislike Tic Tac Toe a lot because, at least on the typical 3x3 grid, it's futile game. If both players know what they're doing, it'll always be a draw.

The top 10 relatively "traditional" RPG's that don't have "Final" or "Fantasy" in the title:
10. Paper Mario
9. Wild ARMs 4
8. Lunar: Silver Star Story
7. Shadow Hearts: Covenant
6. Mega Man X Command Mission (It wasn't that bad...to a Mega Man fanatic)
5. Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2
4. Legend of Legaia
3. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars
2. Chrono Cross
1. Shadow Hearts
It is all that I can think of at the moment, my apologies. And by "traditional", I of course mean turn based, which isn't exactly traditional, but it is too late for my mind to continue functioning properly, so I shall stop the madness.
P.S.: Knyte, it may sound too "fanboyish" to ask, but did you not place Disgaea on the tactics list because you didn't care for the game?

I just have never played it. So, it wouldn't be fair for me to rate it.

Well, you should play it if you get the chance. If you find it used at a GameStop, see if you can abuse our 7 day policy on used games. I'm sure you'd like it, though.
Also, I forgot to add the game "Sweet Home" to my earlier list. Forgetting a survival-horror RPG is never cool.
Here is my personal list of top 10 Mega Man games (any series):
10. Mega Man 8
9. Mega Man X Command Mission
8. Mega Man Zero 2
7. Mega Man X2
6. Mega Man X3
5. Mega Man Soccer
4. Mega Man
3. Mega Man X4
2. Mega Man 2
1. Mega Man 3

No one should disrespect Luigi like that. Where's MorphineJim to defend the green one's honor?

I think Luigi should be in between the Belmonts and Samus, at least for an NES list. He didn't really gain promenence as a character that wasn't pallete-swapped Mario in the late SNES/N64 days.
