I don't know. Never played the first one. Isn't the Church evil in it and you fight them? Not into that.

I'm anxious to hear some reviews on this game. I never played the first one since I heard that it was repetitive, and a lot of flash over substance. But if this one is an improvement, I'll be interested.

I was a HUGE fan of the Tenchu games back in the PS1 days, but the games failed to evolve much through the following generations. I also love Hitman, but we have yet to get a next-gen version of that. So I'm looking for something to fill the void left by those two games.......I'm hoping that AC2 can do it.

I hear the DS game is pretty good and plays a lot like Sonic the Hedgehog. No, seriously.

If you enjoyed the first game you are going to love the second. From a story perspective if you havn't played the first game you are going to be somewhat lost and say "huh?" a lot. It has it's tedious moments. collect this, get that, etc. As of about 1/2 way through the game I can say it's been damn enjoyable and the story is pretty interesting. Like I said though play the first one before touching this.

I like the setting a lot more in this game. The Italian renaissance is great setting for a game.

I bought Assassin's Creed II: Deluxe Edition on the 'Steam Holiday Sale' and have been putting some effort towards it.

So far, it has been exceptionally interesting and a tremendous amount of fun. The play control is somewhat difficult on the PC, but after a few minor tweaks to the controller scheme I was able to easily move around the world.

As for the game being about anti-church. There does appear to be an element of truth to that. In many ways it reminds me of The Da Vinci Code. I would say that if a person were bothered by The Da Vinci Code, then they should not play this game. However, for someone who can accept a work of fiction for what it is then that is exactly what the game is.

I was tempted to buy it during that sale too because my brother vehemently recommended it to me, but £10 ($15) was still a bit much for me to want to spend on it. I'll get it someday though when it dips below my cheapness line.

Given its insanely asinine DRM, I would argue that the developers don't deserve a penny until they stop being foolish morons. How retarded is the DRM? I imagine that the guys who made it practice ‘safe sex’ by super gluing their urethra shut, wrapping their dicks in duct tape, and wearing three condoms on top of that.

However, if it is judged purely on its content and not on its protection, the game is easily worth the full value of a modern title. It is jam packed with enough value that paying for it at $18 (Deluxe) was definitely the right move for me.

The story centers around Italian renaissance politics, where families, banks, and businesses fought for control, with a twist behind it where it's actually all just two secret factions focusing over tangible earthly powers of god. There is minor mention of the church, but most of it centers around fighting the Borgian pope (not the church or christianity, as you play as a Christian character), and if you look at the history of the Borgia, it's kind of hard to take their side. Either way, it takes serious liberties with history while sometimes following it to the letter.

I love the AC games. They have all-around good writing, interesting gameplay, beautiful art design, appealing characters, and immersive atmosphere. The whole yearly installment thing is worrying though, as Ubisoft has a track record of sucking the life out of series if it gets too close release-wise.

The first one has stunning graphics that try to shield somewhat shallow but still fun gameplay, if you've never played it. Very good graphics. Top 10 on the Xbox. Worth the $20 platinum hits price.

I have a save game that i haven't beat from July that I'll pick up someday.

I want to play #2 sometime, and whats that brotherhood game I'm hearing so much about. I thought that was the sequel.

Brotherhood is a weird type of sequel, where instead of introducing a new ancestor it stays with Ezio from AC2, while advancing Desmond's story. They added a lot gameplaywise, but some of the writing and plot feel like it needed more time. Still the best in the series.

I totally came back from being on my Minecraft forums to totally nitpick on this. You're wrong Greg, Ezio is atheist, trust me, he says it in the handheld game, Discovery or whatever.

I never played the handhelds. I only heard all of the prayers and stuff in AC2 and assumed he was Christian.
