So im playing my 360 and everything is cool. Im really bored and start looking through my library of games to find something old i own that i have not played in awhile, and what do i see but FarCry 2. I put in the disc everything is cool, get to the main menu screen, load up my single player game and start to play. It suddenly freezes so i go and turn it off. After a few seconds i turn it back on and what do i see? A fucking Red ring.

What the fuck FarCry? or should i say what the fuck Microsoft. Im tired of shit i buy new that breaks, i haven't had that piece of shit for a year yet. This depresses me their is 3 days till Christmas and i wont be able to play any new video games. Fuck

This is not a Far Cry 2 issue at all. That game is awesome. If your 360 couldn't handle it, it is because it isn't equally awesome.

I've always assumed Far Cry to be short for Far Cry From Being Fun Or Interesting.

I'd just like to point out once again that I own multiple 360 consoles and have really never had any troubles with any of them.

Take care of your consoles, dudes.

It probably isn't his fault, the 360s are notorious for hardware failure. My first one died 3 days after launch, and I'm on my 8th or 9th now. They found a magical one to send me somewhere along the line that has lasted nearly 2 whole years and 6 weeks with my brother. My first 3 or four died trying to play that shitty Perfect Dark launch game, now there is a game from hell. Coincidentally I rarely use the stupid thing except for exclusive games because I'm scared to death it is going to die on me now.

I bought a used one online for cheap (whatever model it was they discontinued when they introduced Elite) and had it die on me once. I sent it in for repairs and have had no problems with it whatsoever. I am overly cautious about it overheating though. Whenever I play it, I make it sure it is in the middle of the floor, and I use a King James Bible to keep it elevated so that the ventilation strips on both sides are exposed. So far, this seems to have done a great job.

Yeah mine actually has a laptop cooler sitting under it on the desk, plugged in and running, whenever it is on. I probably just had really terrible luck with the giant white bricks but I know this thing wants to die on me too.

I do the same thing, but with a phone book.

The only reason I use a Bible is because we were cleaning out an old supply room at work and it was in there. And the manager was like, "If no one wants this, I'm throwing it out." Seemed sacreligious to throw out a Bible, so I took it. And now it's doing God's work. Let us praise Him. Amen.

That's hilarious. I once had a TV and a Sega Master System sitting on a stack of Encyclopedia Britannica. I'm pimp.

I seriously don't think this overheating problem is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. right now the console that I mostly use is sitting on top of my blu ray player on my desk, and before that it was standing up next to my computer (which is ALWAYS running). I shoot canned air at it occasionally to clear the dust off, but that's about it. The thing sat in a plastic trash bag in a storage container for close to six months while I was between apartments, and it still works perfectly.

there HAS to be something that you guys are doing wrong, because I refuse to believe that I have a mogic X-Box.

Ours didn't ever give us a red ring of death, the video plug got fried somehow and we couldn't see anything. Ever.

As for the magic XBOX... you're just a lucky son of a bitch.

Perhaps it is you that is magic.

If I had to take a guess, I would assume that with people who have more than one or two failures, you aren't positioning the device well, and you have a shitty surge suppressor.

High quality surge suppression is important for computers, and game consoles are just mini computers.

Is it really that hard to not make your consoles fucking MELT! Geeze, is microsoft just really fucking lazy or is there NO WAY to prevent the red ring of death during the manufacturing process?

You know what totally doesn't keel over and die? My computer! And I've had it for like 6 YEARS! It has a fucking cooler in it! Does the 360 have a cooler???

The original batches of 360s had faulty heatsinks. The new ones work fine.

I'm not sure I could have positioned mine much better. The damn thing is sitting in the open on a desk with a cooling pad under it and every one since the second one crapped out have been that way. They had a brand new surge protector hooked up to them but those original ones were just terribly built, because they rushed them to market. The one I have now is one that I got after the PS3 launched and they figured out how to properly install a heat sink. Seriously if this thing dies I'm saying screw it because the warranty is long expired, and I'd rather just spend the money on replacing my dying tube TV lol.

I just beat Far Cry: Instincts Predator for 360, and I think it's a good game once you get used to it.

I've got the slim and no problems this far, mostly because it is never turned on. Biggest video game regret purchase of the year for me. Hopefully next year Microsoft will give me a reason to own it.

I have a friend who works at GameStop and I asked him if he could get me a used Xbox 360. His reply was "Never buy a used 360. I hate it when I sell used 360s because that person will be back in 6 months yelling at me after it craps out. Only buy new and get the latest model. And get the warranty."

And then he went on to quote the percentage of failure within 1 year for each model. I don't remember them all but he said the first run of Xbox 360s had a 54% chance of failure within 1 year. That's terrible.

I like how the first instinct was to blame the game. Personally, I think it did you a favor. That game sucks.

No, I don't think I will fuck Stummies.
