...In capacity that is! Booyah!
Nintendo 3DS Cartridges Are So Beefy, They Might Surprise You
| Quote: |
According to Taiwanese-site Gamrade, the 3DS cartridge is able to hold up to 8GB, but it's rumored Nintendo will be enforcing some kind of 2GB limit on 3DS games (details are few and far between in the report), with 1GB the supposed very least required. So don't hold your breath for 8GB Nintendo 3DS games any time soon; however, that may change over the course of the console's life.
Still, this shows just how much of an improvement the 3DS is considering the biggest cartridges for the Nintendo DS are only 512MB. |
I REALLY hope they change their policy on the memory size; if they can be able to do Snake Eater and SSF4 within 1GB or 2, just image the possibilities with full capacity...

I remember something similar when the DS came out. Cards weren't anywhere close to their full capacity. Towards the end of the lifespan we get things like 358/2 days, which IIRC used a larger-capacity-than-usual card.
I could be terribly misremembering.

I read somewhere that the cards were going to be 2GB to start with. But this sounds too awesome!

why create a card that has a large capacity and then put a limit on it instead of allowing it to work to it's full potential?

I have an 8 GB micro SD card that is

that big... so why would the 3DS cartridges have to be that much larger?

That's really small, kids would probably lose them very easily.

Well yeah, I'm not saying they should just be micro SD cards, But I don't see why they would have to be any larger than a normal size SD card, or even DS cartridge.
well I guess they probably won't be, but I am very happy they haven't made the move to disc media, the cartridges are so much more easy to handle and so much more durable.

I agree with you here. I guess they will limit the capacity to 2GB for a while after release and then raise the bar slowly through the 3DS' life. They did do this with the Nintendo DS.

To encourage architecture understanding and so development houses would have to learn how to make games fit so later on they can make an overall better experience in the games.

That makes sense. I don't why why development kits wouldn't five them time to lean this early though.

I want them to be the size of SNES Carts. That way I never misplace them ever.

I just hope they come with cases not made from cardboard.

Heh. Cardboard cases suck. GBA games had them, and I don't have any of them anymore.

Bigger doesn't mean better, especially at the start of a system's life cycle. For all we (or indeed even Nintendo) knows there could be addressing issues at higher capacities that only a revision of the 3DS cartridge standard can fix. You wouldn't want the game of the decade to be wasted with unforeseen technical problems, would you?

I think Nintendo would have already tested for issues like this.
