A tremendously detailed article on the history of wrestling games from Aki, the makers of no mercy.

Check it out.

They also did WM2000 and nWo Revenge and World Tour. Revenge had Aki Man as a playable character.

Revenge was so much fun, lots of lost weekends with that one, I'd gladly fork over some cash for a XBoxLive/PSN/Wiiware version with online play.

Never played No Mercy but Wrestlemania 2000 was decent.

nWo Revenge was probably my favorite cause I have the fondest memories of that game. I also liked the Def Jam titles for what they were.

They make the best wrestling games. I still have nightmares of pressing the shit out of the same button to win grapples in games like WWF RAW for Genesis and such.

The N64 wrestling games were my favorites back in the day. I haven't played any wrestling games since.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

This. We played Revenge endlessly when I was stationed in Georgia. Everyday 4 Marines entered the ring, only two would exit. Razor Ramon was the man!

I knew a kid in middle school named Scott Hall. I didn't have the heart to point out the obvious connection to him.

WM2000 is probably my favorite.

Revenge and No Mercy both had game-ruining glitches. No Mercy would erase all your saved data if you won the title belts with a custom character, particularly if you played through story mode again.

And in Revenge, you could break any pin or submission by hitting the taunt button. However, you'd still take submission damage, and the submission wouldn't break until one full animation of the submission had gone through. So if you had taken enough submission damage, the game would go into the tap out animation immediately following the submission animation and you'd lose.

My friends and I banned Chris Jericho in that game because the Lion Tamer was overpowered. You could get someone to submit to it after a handful of applications.

Revenge would be my favorite if not for the glitch. Best roster ever. Only thing missing was Ric Flair.

I'm not sure which one it was but I remember having a lot of fun with the character creator on one of the 64 ones, mainly because it was so robust (at the time mind you).

I would say I had the most fun with Nitro and Attitude. I just did.
