Hate to bring the generally fun General forum down with this, but you guys are my buddies, so this seems as good a place as any to get this out:
Last Friday, one of my fellow soldiers shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, and then himself. It's been pretty devastating for all of us who knew him as you can imagine. And of course there's the double whammy of trying to reconcile being so sad he's gone, with the monstrous thing he did before he died. Hard to process, and none of us are quite sure how to feel, although "sad" and "really, really fucking pissed" are the top two contenders for me personally right now. All I know for sure is, as stupid as those retarded Suicide Prevention briefings the military gives are, I will never, ever make fun of them again.
Anyway, if you can spare a kind thought and/or prayer for his family, the victim's family and our battalion, please do so.

This is so tragic, and I'm incredibly saddened to hear it. My thoughts are with them both.

I have nothing to say, so I won't be a dick for once.
Suicide is rough shit. I had a friend kill himself a few years back.

maybe my uncommon point of view about death is helping.
I see death as a neutral event because humans aren't able to judge things they don't know.
Thats a fact. And you don't know death so, why is everyone so upset about it.
I have lost my father and after that my stepfather.
All you and your people need is time to heal the wounds. Don't think of the pain as something that will last. think of it of something that is bound to go.
thats all i can say...

I am sorry to hear about this tragedy, SoldierHawk. My thoughts and prayers are out to the your friend and his ex-girlfriend, and I sincerely hope that you are able to recuperate. Best regards.
To be on the safe side, while I believe that most everyone here is fairly well-adjusted, but folks, I would hope everyone here has never even contemplated it. Instead of rambling on why you shouldn't commit suicide, I'll just say that communication can go a long way, and I'm sure that people here on the forums would be willing to listen as well.

I'm sorry to hear this Hawk.
About 3 years ago, we had a close friend who got a DUI out in town. He was just promoted to E-5 before that but wasn't getting paid yet. So when he was about to get his ass stomped my the CO, and drop him a rank, it goes by your current pay grade, (which was still E-4 effectively dropping him 2 ranks due to that loophole). He knew that was coming, and had just bought a new car, and dropped a down payment on a house he was no longer going to be able to afford.
He was standing the Midwatch (midnight to 4 am)on the ship, while we were in port, the day before Captain's Mast, as Top-Side Security rover. He was Armed with an M-14 Rifle, and 10 Minutes before I was suppose to relieve him on watch, he decided enough was enough, put the M-14 in his mouth and ended it. I was the first to get up there and see him.
I've found consoling in friends and family. People who I can trust and just vent to has been the biggest help ever. I still have nightmares every once in a while of hearing the gunshot, rushing up there and seeing that.
Talk to your fellow Soldiers. Help each other out. If you need to, I'm sure you guys have Chaplains to talk to just like we did. Losing a fellow service member in anyway is never a fun time. Especially when they do it to themselves and sorry to say it, "take the cowards way out."
Feel free to message me anytime. I know what your going through.

I'm so terribly, terribly sorry Hawk. My grandfather commit suicide when I was three, and due to manic depression, I myself have contemplated/attempted a number of times. I know how much it can affect people around the victim, and I can only imagine how a murder/suicide must affect you. My thoughts are out to all those affected.
